Default XJ40 Eurovox radio - security code?

Hi All

I recently purchased a fairly cheap but basically sound 1988 XJ40 3.6L Sovereign with some good history and almost everything works!. Unfortunately, within 2 hours of picking it up in Brisbane as I was driving it back to Port Macquarie a truck hit it and damaged the right rear guard, not badly though. But it had to be towed and then moved down here to be fixed - I had taken the precaution of insuring it with Shannons and they were very helpful. Just got it back last week and now I am trying to sort out some of the usual gremlins. Usual things, sagging headlining, a few electrical faults (low coolant but level OK, bulb failure but all lights work, Circuit 1 failure which I am chasing down).

Also the radio works but I gather it needs a security code which I don't have. It is a Eurovox MC2461A built for Australia. It does not have the aperture under the sticker with jumpers to set the code as some overseas models do, so I can't find any clue to the code. While I have just found that you can send a form to Go Technologies who now support Eurovox, the process is rather longwinded and takes some time. I would prefer not to wait if possible.

Has anyone found another way to source/apply a code for these Australian radios?

Cheers
Declan

FYI, while rummaging in the glovebox checking for anything to throw out, I found the original car tucked into the back corner showing the surprisingly complex method of unlocking the unit. Not just a simple matter of entering the code and pressing a memory or enter button, you had to press multiple buttons and enter a different sequence under both FM and AM to unlock it. Bit annoying each time you remove battery power. Anyway, the unit works but sound is currently coming out of the left side speakers only and is crackly when you turn the volume knob. Haven't had a chance to check speaker operation yet.

Meantime I have bought a new unit with bluetooth and a reversin camera in a small screen - these Jags are long and you sit low so reversing can be tricky. Will fit it when I have time later, but the priority is sorting the problems to get it registered. More on that in the XJ40 discussion if you are interested.

In particular if anyone has an owner manual from a 1988 XJ40 please PM me. I received the books but without the owners manual.

Cheers

Hi Derek, when time permits place an introduction in the New Members Section where you’ll receive a warm welcome internationally. Are you from NSW or ACT?

Hi Derek
At this stage I am not removing parts apart from the radio, although that is lower on the priority list until I get it onto historic rego. However, if you PM me we can discuss what I might have available later.

Cheers
