91' Sovereign just bought from a used car dealer. Factory AM/FM cassette CD changer unit equipped (but no changer in trunk).

Radio asks for a code. I called Jag I received the code, (3112). When inputting the code it beeps 3 times and says "WAIT".

After a 30 minutes or so in "WAIT" mode, it goes back to reading "code". What's going on here? Are there any other ways of activation this radio!!

Just a suggestion, but if it is the correct code and you are only getting 3 beeps, one of your code presses isn't registering as you should get 4 beeps, one for each press.

"Wait" appears if you enter the wrong code a couple of times, so the 30min wait is normal behavior.

When --code-- appears next time, enter your number code slowly and wait for a beep after each press.

If that doesn't work you may have the wrong code.

Thanks Larry, tried it slowly doesn't take it. That code came from Jag directly, so I baffled. But thanks for replying back...

I'm traveling and can't access my files, but if you will visit the XJ40.com forum and search for a post titled "Alpine Radio RECODING" by paulajayne, she tells how to reset the code of your radio to 6543.

I think I found it. I don't quite follow what she is saying, will try to make sense of it...

It Reads:
To recode the Jag Alpine Radio AJ 9200 R the onboard jumpers (they can be seen hidden under the label - run your finger over the label and push the soft spot, this will create an oblong hole) need to be changed.

They need to be all bridged - so out with a small soldering iron and a small cross point driver.

First remove the top cover to reveal the cassette deck. There are two screws that need to be removed before removing the other side; they match up to very obvious points on the base cover.

Once they are out remove the four base cover screws and then the cover.

Identify the jumpers that were visible through the hole and solder any unsoldered pairs.

Check with a multi-meter after soldering.

Reassemble - put in car and when CODE is requested enter 6543 - Radio should now go.

If you're going to re-code the radio, you're going to have look up instructions for how to remove it too! ..Most illustrated threads that deal with radio removal refer to the "ski slope" or "heater controls" or "blower micro switch"..

So I'm assuming you called the local Jaguar dealer and gave them the VIN and they gave you the code? Is that it?

Unless you are planning on keeping the car original and keeping the original radio,you might be better off buying an aftermarket stereo/cd player for about $100. Not only will it give you more options by playing cd's over cassettes,but most units also have an input jack for playing external devices too.
