Default Duplicate Key...

Ms Kitty only came with one key. My local locksmith said he can make a duplicate at a cost of $90. Seems a bit much (Jaguar tax).

Any recommendations?

Cheers,

Stu

That sounds really too cheap actually.

At that price it won't be a genuine Jaguar blank he uses, just a generic one, won't have any branding on it.

You can order blank keys from Jaguar and get them cut by your locksmith, i've done this in the past.

Hi Cambo,

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't care if the key blank is generic. I just want a spare key.

Default Update...

I just could not bear the thought of paying $90 for a (generic) spare key. In addition to which I was told that I would have to leave the car for most of the day at the locksmith shop. At the same time, I could not go through life with only one key for the Jag.

After a bit of searching the web and previous posts regarding keys, I came across triple-c.com in the USA. Their website gives the details on how to read the eight cut Tibbe key used on my car. If reading the key proves to be too difficult, then they will accept a photograph or two of your present key.

I ordered a key on the 19th of August (via PayPal) and it was delivered on the 27th. Works like magic! Total cost including postage was $AUD67.
