I found this thread but no responses which i found odd
"I have quite a dilemma, i bought an XK8 with a busted engine(4.0liter)(some genious started the car after it was sitting for 3 years and busted the engine/block), so now i need a new engine.
I found a AJ-V8 from a Jaguar S-type 2001 4.0 liter, could any of you confirm that the engines are totally identical and swappable?
Are there any differences?(even slightest?) Will i need any additional parts for the swap? Any tips?"
I could not find any responses, so I though as i am in a similar pickle and no time to remove motor myself
What suggestions for a replacement motor do we have, 1997 - 2004 all the same? 4.0 lt or any later motors fit? what about ECU's swap? harness?
Who is best to complete an engine swap/rebuild between cairns and Adelaide? Who has the experience here

 

They are not identical, from 1996 it is AJ26, since 1999 it is AJ27. Electronics are different: sensors, coils, throttle body, ECU, are not interchageable. I don't know if it's possible to swap only the block and the heads and keep all the other parts from the old engine..
