Default XJ8 (Sovereign) Flooded?

I know there have been SO many threads about the flooding (cylinder wash) issue, and I have read them ALL. So I apologise in advance for creating yet another one.

As a new Jag owner who has owned 18 Hondas in the past 30 years, I have 6 old ones right now, and have NEVER actually had a breakdown, this is quite frustrating, but I guess a part of Jaguar life. I have NEVER had to have a car towed before!

Last week I went to the hardware store. My car was working beautifully. When I came out, I needed to wind down the windows, so I started the car, (or at least I thought I did, it is so quiet). The ignition is now on. I wind down the windows, place the plastic pipe in the car, and then close the doors and get in.

The ignition is on, but the car is NOT running. I assume this means the fuel rails are pressurised. And the car will not start. After 30 minutes of reading and trying things, I concede defeat, and have her towed home on a tilt tray.

I have been busy and have six other cars, 5 working, one smashed up by my son (which we DROVE home from the crash - still no towing required), so finally today I have tried the "oil in the cylinders trick", without success..... And I have a flat battery..... Off to Supercheap to get a socket to get the battery out, and I will charge the battery, and try again.

So, I just wanted to get a few local ideas and thoughts.

Do you think turning the ignition on, leaving it on, and NOT starting the car flooded it? Or burnt something out? It was on for about 2 minutes maximum.

Some threads say remove the fuel pump relay before starting, other say keep the pedal flat to the floor, which is the best method?

Exactly how much oil in the cylinders, some say a tiny amount, others say a tablespoon full, others four squirts of an oil can. I don't want to kill it with oil. Can I do that?

I only did 4 cylinders (on one side) to save having to remove the air box, should I do all 8?

And I guess the last question is.... if I can't get it to start, a local Jag guy who can help me out at a reasonable cost, I live Western Suburbs, and will need to have the car towed there, so somewhere close would be nice. Any recommendations?

Clark, you are very local, and seem to be the local guru, if you would like to help, I pay in beer or cash, and would like to meet a fellow member.

Thank you in advance for all your help and advice.

Hi David,
I am about 5 minutes max from you. I would like to catch up for a beer some time, maybe at the Jindalee?
Sorry to hear of your troubles today at the hardware, then your trip to Supercheap(Oxley sotre I'm guessing). I was at both around mid day, but didn't see a Jaguar bring dragged onto a tilt tray.
Being fuel injected there is not a lot I know about this, I have only ever worked on one system and that was a 96' Chorokee.(very basic).
I have sent you a PM with my contact details.

I would post the question again in the XJ8 forum as well(cut and paste your post in a new thread there), it will get more answers there before you resort to paying a mechanic.XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Locally I can recommend two guys.

Mufflerpro (doe's all mechanical) Vaughn. My pick of the local guys.

PH 3715 5755
Muffler Pro

KPR Automotive (Peter)

Pete is a master at diagnostics, a lot of local shops use him to sort electronic stuff(may be suited to your later 2001 model)

I use muffler pro, and he uses KPR to diagnose codes and electronics.

Failing that you have Jag Land - Brisbane's Independent Jaguar & Land Rover Specialists at Alderly or some links in the threads below.

Default In the shop now....

Hi Clarke,

You must have read my mind. I was going to contact you today.

The Jag is down at KPR right now, Peter is going to have a look this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Mate I don't think I am going to have time for a beer this afternoon. I organised my day around getting the car towed to KPR, doing a couple of quick jobs, and then a beer this afternoon, and I have just had a client ring, and I need to see her at Moorooka at 3pm today (sober).

And I am off to the Motherland Tuesday at midnight, so have a great day at Lakeside, and I will finally catch up when I get back.

Cheers....

Hope it all goes well, I was down at KPR (well the motorcycle shop next to him) early today, poked my head in the door but no Jag in there. Must have been before it arrived.
Enjoy the holiday and we will enjoy Lakeside, certainly will catch up when you return.
(since we share the same local)

David, good to hear your car is sorted.(fuel pump fault ,I believe) I was speaking to Peter at KPR today(diagnosing a code on my Jeep).
He was quite pleased you came to him after being recommended on the forums. Thank you for mentioning that, it may be beneficial to any other members local to us.
