That list of Clarkes sounds a little like the old Vic Roads rules, I think they found them unenforceable and just moved to max days for any purpose per year.

There is a proposal from VicRoads to increase the minimum age to 30 years to discourage newer generation vehicles and align with most other States. The AOMC is calling for comments on the proposal atm. They also seem to be cracking down on permit factory clubs , not really doing anything just doling out permits. Audits will be happening or so they threaten. Typical public service though, the 30 year rule was first raised about 2.5 years ago with specific mention of late 80s cars going on club reg (the seem to be fixated on that era for some reason) They have now taken so long now the late 80s cars are all turning 30 anyway.

Sounds like your system is better, we are also limited to 12 club events a year including driving to club meetings.
Full rego for me at $900 a year is better if I can drive it as many times a day I want all year round. Took it out no less than 4 times today.

Drove son to school(well he drove me) "L"
and I drove home again , went to Repco to buy a grommet. Went to shop to buy stuff, and went to pick son up later in the day. Then did a beer run just before dinner.

That would probably be 30% of my allowance of annual trips on club rego in Qld(lol)

 

mmmm...really sounds like they are over controlling. Although they probably would be looking at VIC and saying see, now you have this other problem (rogue clubs and abusers of the system). Hopefully VicRoads can tweak the system here and clean it up a bit without going draconian. If some of the AOMC get togethers are a sign , the current rules are very healthy for the car club scene and probably the car part of the economy.

Ha! You've gotta love 'em, good old Public Nuisance (sorry, I mean Service). I wouldn't mind sensible auditing if it sorts out the rorters, if they ever get round to it. Also re-opens the old chestnut of when is a classic not a classic? (a rhetorical question of course, way too subjective to ever get consensus).

Clarke, it's actually not too bad providing the car isn't literally your daily driver. On the permit we can do unlimited journeys on any nominated day. Whenever I plonk the date in the log book I like to fit in as many trips as possible and it all counts as one day.

He is going to the driver training centre at Mt Cotton with a group of year 12's to do an advanced driver training day(skid pan,etc). You can use their cars or supply your own registered car, so we are taking the XJ6 since he will be using it in the real world with no ABS or traction control like the cars they supply.

It sounds a lot more user friendly than our system. You get the feeling Queensland Transport want the old cars off the road.

We can only hope as parents, especially as fathers, that they arent as bloody stupid as we once were.

 

Agreed, when I got my open licence in NZ at 15 I had never driven on a public road until my practical test. Then I went off and learnt to drive properly with a car load of mates.

Only needed a couple of bushes and tie rod boots replaced. Otherwise all good.

Only three layers of bureaucracy to go

All finalised for the Jag today. Rego was $660 is now $142 (90 days worth) , insurance was $344 is now $137 for $3000 higher value.

And just to show that you should never get to smug and happy, I went to take the Jag on the little trip over to the country Vicroads office in Seymour and no drive, no gear engagement forward or reverse. I have a suspicion that my shifter is no longer connected to my transmission. Will need to get another car off jackstands to get this one on. That can wait until tomorrow when its cooler.

So I have a car with low cost reg and insurance, it just doesnt go anywhere.

Not really sure I have a choice re the 90 days , it did 20k klms last year :-) Its become has become a bit of a family favourite. It may be different when we have 3 cars on the system and maybe more consciously share the load.

Yep, its a good problem , especially when you arent dependent on any of them :-)

Thanks Tony. Well, I have NFI what was going on with the trans.

After having a poke around underneath , I dropped the car down again and everything worked fine. Never had anything like that before. Autos usually tell you they arent well with a range of symptoms, this had nothing. It worked fine, wouldnt work at all, works fine again. Maybe its on an odds and even day schedule? :-) All very weird.

I have been smoozing around the Chev/T400 related forums and found nothing. Plenty of cases where it can refuse to engage for various reasons often relating to poor maintenance and tinkerage it seems. Didnt find anything regarding on/off/on behaviour. I have just spent months sorting out an intermittent problem with the gas on my HiLux , I dont really want to start on another one of those. Much prefer it when things just break.

 

That is the way I like it too, but I would rather just no problems. But that isn't going to happen with old cars.

 

Even though you turned up nothing, I guess it makes more sense to look in those forums. Keep forgetting some of us have some significant non-Jag components, I'd be in the same boat with my trans.

 

Just got my insurance papers and info and realised that roadside assist comes with the RACV Veteran/Vintage/Classic insurance , a higher level than I subscribe to now even. So that another $90 a car less its year. Must remember all this when they have club raffles and buy up big :-)
