Default Mark 2 Values

Big question I know, but does anyone have an idea of what a 1959-1967 MK2 should cost

Say

1. A fixer upper
2. A tidy original, sound car
3. A mint original sound car and
4. A well restored example

That's a tough one. I think the analogy here is "how long is a piece of string".

For example I know there are plenty who will pay more for a tatty but more desirable 3.8 manual than a much tidier 2.4 or 3.4 auto. Given there isn't exactly a smorgasbord to choose from it comes down to how much your pocket will bear for a car you desperately want, how far you're prepared to travel and how much the seller will play ball.

If you check out the current offerings on carsales.com.au you will see how wildly the prices vary, but in general the 3.8's pull much bigger money.

Having said all that you could try a couple of specialist dealers who handle classic Jags e.g. Lou Guthry in Sandringham or The Healy Factory in Mitcham for opinions and availability in the current market? I've had no dealings with either and have no affiliation with them, but they might be useful as you gather your intel.

That's a real tricky one. Anywhere from 10K to 90K
A fair 2.4 auto is the bottom and a pristine 3.8 manual is the top.

When I was looking the Healey factory had a pretty good one with a 4.2 and auto for 55K and the Toy factory in Sydney had a nice 3.8 with a 5 speed for 65K.

I was only interested in the 3.8 and the cheapest one I looked at was 15K and wasn't a runner.

Really its just a range of time payment plans. You will probably end up with similar numbers just at different spending rates. At least with a Mark 2 you will get a lot of the money back.

Probably a key point is what you are after. Do you want the self build and tinkerage aspect or just a nice character car to drive?

Nice character car to drive Steve

I reckon if I wait long enough , one will come up through the club , with a good provenance and at the right price.

I just don't want to miss a similar occurrence to the E Type pricing phenomenon

Tis a pity Ken and Linda wont be on the upcoming run. If you arent sold already their Mk2 would do it for you. A very nice example as they say :-)

It is a cracker Steve

I checked it out today

Shannon's are 5 minutes from my work

A trap that

And Lou Guthry is also 3 minutes. Another trap.

There are just a few issues with the Shannon's Mk2

1. It has been re bodied, re shelled so the body number doesn't match the ID plate or chassis ( At least I think that is what I was told). Although all other numbers match.
2. It has been re trimmed in the wrong leather ( but it does look schmick)
3. I don't have a spare $35- $40K hanging around

Hmm, the primary issue for most of us!

It looks good in the photos. Even with the issues I'll be surprised if it goes for $40k.

I'll put my bet in at mid 50s.

Sounds like your pretty fussy Pete, I don't think you'll want mine.

Hi Ken

Looking forward to seeing yours

The issue with the Shannons one ( and believe me when I tell you it has had a 10/10 refurb and is magnificent ) is that it would be too good for me

I prefer stuff that is relatively original at a good price

I am not a concors sort of bloke but I really appreciate the original patina that comes with a car that is not perfect but has had some love lavished on it over an extended period.

The XKR is a lovely car but has some character building flaws in thta vein

The 78 SWB Landrover is the same.

Steve- The 110, 1985 Isuzu County Landrover has just had an offer made on it I will accept. The 1998 Discovery is being swapped for a really nice 1985, 110 , V8 County that will be the next one on the market.

The chancellor of the exchequer has already allocated those funds

Lucky I am a couple of years off yet

Hope you get to hang onto at least one LR Pete. Always regretted parting with my beloved Disco (a case of needs must at the time!)

Still have a 1978 SWB , Series 3 , 2 owner with 79000 kms on him. All original

And will keep the TD5 Discovery for a fair while we think

Funny about the TD5 D2A Discovery

Don't know if I told you but that's how I ended up selling/ swapping the 2 other Landrovers.
1985 Isuzu County has had a deal done and the 98 V8 Discovery has been swapped

Wanted another TD5 , recently after owning a 2004 Town Classic , from 2006-2010. Sold it to people near our friends and kept on seeing it and regretted it's sale/

Bought the current one ( 2004 D2A , TD5 HSE , Alveston Red , Black Leather ) over Xmas and needed to put some $ back into the till. Hence , sell 2 out of the collection
It was $5000 under market value. It has a few issues but I know what they are and I'll fix em.
As I said about the Mark 2 , I don't mind tinkering. I'm crap at it but I'm happy to learn and try

If the weather for Winton is rubbish, the XKR stays home and you will see the D2A

Told Deb today, that I reckon we should hang onto it and pump some $ in and completely refurb. She thought was a good idea.

Geez , thought I was on the Landrover forum there for a minute

Anyways , back to the Mark 2 discussion

Don't think anyone would mind, many Jag enthusiasts have a passion for Landy's as well!

Far too nice for me Steve

I don't deserve it !

Have also been looking at 1967-1969 Daimler 250's.

A Mk 2 with a Daimler 2.5 litre V8. Not as popular as Mk 2's because they're not as powerful and they're not Jaguars but the same classic lines and my favourite number of cylinders. Another GT for the stable?
