Hello All,

Well the gearbox went in my 97 XK8 as I knew it one day would. Took it to the local specialist here in Calgary, British Auto, and they told me I needed a new one installed, either used or rebuild. Used with ~130K would be like $3600 installed or a rebuilt one sourced out of the states would be $8000. I would definitely preferred a proper rebuilt one as I have so much into this car but no way I'm spending 8Gs. I have looked online and found a few places in the US that have the proper ZF 5HP24 rebuilt with upgraded parts etc, for around $2500US plus ~$1000 core plus ~$300 shipping. Alot less than $8000. British Auto said they would swap the tranny for $800 if I sourced my own. I have been trying to order one from European Transmission in Georgia but 2 weeks of email and phone calls I haven't been able to order one yet (they either don't reply or on holiday (understandable) or in training..) I have confirmed they have one in stock but cannot be ordered until Wed and now their website has gone offline.. I have tried to contact local wreckers to find a lower KM used one but no one has bothered to reply. Has anyone had any luck buying a proper rebuilt one in Canada or has had success bring one in from the states? Any opinions welcome, Thx in advance.

 

Take your car to the us on a trailer.... Get the tranny installed there
Way cheaper.... Places like falcon works in Tucson Arizona can help you out.
When crossing the boarder just tell them you are racing the salt flats
That's what I do ... Works like a charm and you get great service at huge discounts.
