Surprising Corrosion Problem
The red arrows highlight the corrosion areas I found.
This winter I dropped the rear suspension in my 2004 XK8 to replace shocks and bushings and a general cleanup. I was surprised when I took it apart to find some very bad corrosion that was not apparent when the unit was still in the car. I am new to this car in the past 2 years and I know it spent its earlier life in Ottawa and may have been driven year round. I ended up doing some fairly extensive welding to repair the lower suspension frame; others with our environment might want to poke around a bit if you are under the car to check for this issue. There is an obvious water and grit trap where the to sheet metal sections join. It is now all blasted and powder coated and back in the car and all is right with the world patiently waiting for spring in London Ontario.
