hey guys so i know we have some very bright people on this forum so i was wondering if one of you can help me out..so my buddy took his car through a car wash(told him he's a dumb@$$ for doing that) and it was supposed to spray the black tire stuff on his tires and instead got all over his new chrome wheels...now they look like they're 20 years old(kind of like musky with water spots)..any ideas on how to fix this? thanks in advance

 

Has he tried polishing them out by hand yet?

 

May have to get a little aggressive on the spots if a typical chrome cleaner/polisher product doesn't work out. Sounds like alot of elbow grease is required. Maybe talk to a detailer if he can't get them back to pristine himself.

 

he said he tried turtle wax chrome polish with a mothers powerball but so far no luck..any recommendations for products?

 

If the black tyre stuff is I imagine then it is sticky and greasy. Try a rag with petrol, but only if the alloys are in perfect condition and you have plenty of soapy water ready to wash off the petrol straight away. Then bin any thing left over and watch where any wash off will run to. A drain should be fine as you should not use very much.

Its is smelly and disgusting, but petrol will take off pretty much anything.

Spray wheels with engine degreaser and rinse off to make sure they are totally clean. From there I would first try Never Dull or a similar product. If that does not work, try Simichrome (sp). If that does not work, sounds like the spots were probably there before or he has a real bone to pick the car wash. The bubbles are corrosion and you won't be able to totally elminate them, but you can remove the "outer circle" of it.
