Thumbs up How to effectively clean your leather seats with steam and little or no chemicals

Here is a thread that I have put together showing the effectiveness of cleaning your vehicles interior....mainly leather seats, carpets and mats using the latest eqiupment available. This process uses mainly steam and little or no chemicals which will give fabulous results...

Here are some before shots of the filth, looks brown to me. not beige

After steam cleaning process, they went from a dingy brown to their natural color

Passenger side was also very nasty and neglected

The cleaning process begins with a very light misting of Meguiar's APC+ cut 1:10

For visual purposes I taped off the seat to effectively show a 50/50 shot of the cleaned area, here the steam cleaning begins..

Steam cleaning immediatly works its magic.....

Look at the towels on the floor after my first pass on this seat with the steam. One quick last pass for that more stubborn stain...

Looks like new once again after a proper cleaning and conditioning

Carpets and mats were cleaned in the same fashion, a light misting of APC +, then aggitate and brush with steam cleaner attachment. Towel completely dry after and inspect, if a second pass is necessary for heavy stains...repeat the above

These towels really took a beating, they were brand new, white and bright. These were just from cleaning the leather seats only....

Nice thread Dave with some great pics too especially loved the 50/50s!
I'm guessing it wouldn't be too different a process for cloth seats Dave?
Mine are kept on top of on a weekly basis and are pretty much like new as are the carpets.....A little pass with the steam cleaner certainly wouldn't do any harm I guess?

Wow!

What was the headliner like, if the seats were this bad?

Cheers,

I wonder if the Hoover carpet steamer I have would produce those results....

Meguiar's APC+? Wonder if I can find that locally.

Hi Absolutely amazing... This has always been a problem for me as I love the ivory leather in my XKR. In my 2002 model the leather started to look so bad I took it to a specialist that claimed that they would "re-die" the leather and return it to factory new. I was so excited I dropped it off to get the work done and when I picked it up all they had done was paint it with that Vinyl/leather paint! it was horrible and cold not be fixed.

My current model 07 xkr is at the point where the ivory leather has a yellow color to it, do you think that the steam clean will fix this?

Any advice would be helpful. By the way if you would like to come to New Zealand to clean my seats I would be happy to put you up for a few days!

APC+ is the bees knees! That stuff is fantastic.

Got my new steamer and this stuff on the dove grey, and brightened everything up considerably. I couldn't believe the original color of the armrest was a light grey!

Notable difference to what is already a pampered car. You are going to have to work more on that edge beading though. LOL.

Hi David

I have just purchased my new steam cleaner to try and duplicate your steam cleaning efforts... however I live in New Zealand and I can't source Meguiar's APC+ can you please give me an idea of what this cleaner is so that I might be able to purchase a similar product.

Thanks Kev

Kev,

Checking with the Meguiar's people to see if there is a distributor in your area that stocks the APC+ on their shelves...I will let you know.

What products are readily available for interior detailing in New Zealand?

Give me some product names so I can also look at an alternative cleaner for you that would work like APC+

**All Purpose Cleaner Plus D10301 - Description

Product Information
  • Best used to degrease engine bays, wheel wells, tires, interior clean ups, and much more
  • Effective even at a 10:1 dilution ratio making this an extremely good value
  • Works well in carpet extractors due to the low sudsing formula
  • Dilute and dispense using a 22 oz trigger spray bottle
Customer Reviews

100% of customers said that they would buy this item again
Based upon 7 ratings

This all surface cleaner is perfect to have around for degreasing engine bays, wheel wells, tires, interiors, and much more. The concentrated formula works effectively even at a 10:1 dilution ratio and can be made stronger for stubborn stains. The low sudsing formula of the APC+ makes it a perfect match for carpet extractors. Mist the APC+ on the desired surface and let sit for about 45 seconds, then rinse thoroughly with water. For stubborn stains, use up to a 4:1 dilution ratio and agitate the stain with a medium bristled brush. The All Purpose Cleaner Plus is apart of the Meguiar's Professional Detailer Brand, which offers tremendous value and functionality that every detailer can appreciate. This extremely versatile product should be in any detailers arsenal of products.
