1966 XKE 4.2 center carb leak
Hello fellow Jag owners. To give a little history here the car had sat for about 18mos. It started up easily, but started leaking gas from the center carb immediately. It was not leaking when it was parked. It is a steady drip flow until you turn it off. I pulled the carb housing and piston out but you cannot see anything there. The leak appears to be coming from choke linkage on the bottom of the carb. The car starts and runs fine, but the leak is bad enough that it is not driveable. My thought is to pull the carbs, and remove the bowl and have a look inside. Any information would be appreciated before I tear into it.
It sounds like the stop valve in the float chamber is not sealing, or the float has split and is not actuating the stop-valve. Check out the float and the stop valve and replace if necessary. Leaking floats that don't float is a common syndrome. Are they SUs or Strombergs ?
