4.2 triple carb manifold and carbs
Years ago I had I think the year was a 1971 4.2 XJ6, it had three SU carburetors. It was totaled and the only thing I saved was the intake manifold with three SU carburetors. They are in good but used condition.
would there be a market for this tri carb manifold and carbs, and what would be the going price for the manifold and three SU original carburetors?
Thanks
HH

Yes, there will be a market but, it will be a much smaller market than the E-type market. The E-type has a unique manifold that allows the carbs fit under the hood/bonnet (C24558) (XJ6 C27916 or C30948). The Xj6 was fitted with 2 different types of SU Carbs - HD8 and HS8 besides Stromberg carbs. I would guess that the carbs would have a starter carb (automatic choke) instead of a manual choke like the E-type. The carbs would have to be rebuilt in order to deal with todays fuel with 10-15% alcohol and to replace dried out seals.
The 420G/MK-10 triple carbs plus manifold go for substantial less than E-type triple carbs plus manifold. I would put the XJ6 SU HD8 in the same range. I have seen 420 dual HD8 carb setup including manifold, carbs, air cleaner not selling for months with an asking price of $400.
Do you have any pictures of manifold? Mostly the side view to see the slant of the intake runners. The triple intake from the 420 is 7 degrees up, and for the XKE it is 12 degrees down. 420 intake for wheel well clearance, and XKE intake for Bonnet clearance.
If it can be repurposed for other Jaguars with 4.2 twin intakes their may be some interest.
I installed a triple 420 intake manifold with 3 ZS on a 1968 XKE, required a 7 degree machined aluminum shim to correct the 7 degree up slope to 0 degrees, this gave the required bonnet clearance.
