Default 67 4 Speed Manual Gearbox Tool Question

Multiple maintenance and repair manuals mention a "dummy countershaft" as being needed to properly disassemble and re-assemble the gearbox. Is this a special tool for sale and/or do people make their own? The manuals list the dimensions as if it is something we can just make on our own our of wood maybe? Or, metal?

I searched all forums using search tool and entered the key words dummy, countershaft, counter, shaft. Did not get any valid returns.

Thanks in advance for the inputs and suggestions.

Kevin

Hi KevinK,
A dummy countershaft can be made out of almost any material. It is used to keep the needle bearing from going all over. I have used a broomstick before, it was the correct diameter and cut it to the proper length. It worked great.

Hope this helps
Bob
