i guess this would be a barn find. guy i shoot pool with notice that i wore jag coats an shirts. asked me if i would like to buy his jag. turns out to be a 69 2+2 4.2 (dual carbs) 4 sp. that has been in his garage for the last 20-25 yrs. from what i can see under a pile of junk is strait body. no rust that i can see( came from calf in 85). back glass in seat, some chrome off, maybe in boxes, headliner hanging. knock -offs, gas tank out. and someone has dyed the int black. wants 6 grand but has lost title. was never in his name. worth buying???
he says all parts are there in boxes. plus a bunch of new gaskets in boxes too. guess i'll have to go spend some time and dig it out to see whats what .have to dig it out just to get pics.
Due to the value of these cars when restored, almost every part is available, even complete body shells. However, I'd be more worried about "title", but I'm not sure of the law in the USA on this. If the car has been standing for 25 years maybe it isn't important now.
It will be a big job if you take it on. Satisfying though, like all Jaguars
don't think it is stolen. but i have a 71 2+2 v12. i could use the 69 as a spare for some parts, but 6 big ones for a car with no title is much. and it's a s11 as mine is s111. don't know how many parts work on mine. can get a title if i want to post a bond. don't know how much that is. me and jags have a love /hate relationship. have 5 more. need one to drive while the other is in shop.
ok we settled on 5 big ones. got the car to shop and up on lift. no rust . exhaust needs replacing. cleaned out fuel system, car started right up after all those years. no smoke ,sounds good. paint waxed out good. little bondo on hood end. one tear in drivers seat. turns out it's a 1970 as on the lic papers from calf in 82.
That sounds like a really good deal. I bought a 68' with a good amt of rust issues and no title for $10,500. In Texas, you have to post a bonded title. It was kind of a pain b/c the car is not running and I had to haul it around to a couple of places, but after spending around $100 for the insurance bond, they gave me a bonded title. After three years it becomes a normal title. Enjoy...
ok did more looking this morning after i backed it out of shop(clutch still works after 20 yrs). needs exhaust replaced (leaks) checked floors under carpet, little rust along edge in pass side but not thru. needs headliner(hanging), frt sup shot, rubber all gumey from oil soaked. but still tight, radio and air doesn't work. drives ok. but now what am i going to do with two? guess i'll spend my last years in the garage. glad i don't have a wife to listen too, just 6 real cats and 8 toys.
If the headliner is falling down and in your way, a temporary fix is to buy a dozen small rare earth magnets and stick them up to hold the headliner out of the way.
Alfred
headliner too far gone. don't think wipers were ever used with those arms. got a a old cars price guide and they say i paid to much for it. wonder where they get their prices? also saw on ebay an add that said a 1.5 bonnet was rare. looks like my s2 and s3 bonnets to me.
Hey jaguar! Nice buy. No way in hell did you pay too much. You simply found a car for sale from someone that didn't give a hoot about it and wanted it gone,(hard to find when it comes to etypes). Anyway, if you get to replacing the headliner, (and you're doing it yourself), I would highly appreciate knowing the process(if you go this route) of removing the backing panel to which the headliner is glued. You see they instruct you to glue the new one on with the backing left in the car and from the info it's not a one man job and difficult even with two. You have to make a center line, front to back and side to side, and match up marks, then glue only a ft. from the center line and CAREFULLY push it up and spread from center out, then you have to glue more, and spread and tuck all while your bending your neck and trying to see. Trying not to get a single wrinkle with this method seems awfully difficult. I...thought that if the panel were taken out carefully and put on the floor or table you could attach the headliner MUCH easier and pop the whole thing back in one piece, cept, For the life of me, I'm scared sick of breaking the thing because I can't find ANYONE selling the new panel. So... If you come across, (again if you too feel this is a better way), the procedure to remove the panel PPLLEEAASSE let me know. P.S., my panel is loose and held in by the metal frame surrounding it. Thanks, Bud 69 2+2 BRG
i'm 74, so i want be trying to put in a headliner. my hands are getting bad so i might not do anything with this car, but put it in the garage. maybe my son might do something , but i've had the 71 for 15 yrs and he hasn't helped on it. might try and drive it like it is. 71 drives but needs redone also. can't do both. trying to figure out numbers now . car #p1r43084, body 4r38746. thought car& body#same as in us cars. eng 7r389334-9. trans kjs262##-8. just a collector of fine junk. found an old 6 in back of garage with smog tubes ,so it must be a later motor? polished silver covers . found a little more rust but hard to find.
