Welcome to the forum - beautiful car.
Take the winter time to go through everything and make sure it's all road worthy.
They are definitely super fun to drive and I personally love the sound the V12 makes!

two pictures of the tear down. the interior is finished and awaiting the rest of the rebuild. bonnet and trunk lid completed. starting the shell in about a week. engine rebuild has started. i think it will be another year before back on the road, ie. spring 2016. but well worth the wait to do it properly.
while not period correct, i went with the modifications for the smaller chrome overriders.

well some progress being made. metal work nearing conclusion. interior is completed and waiting for installation. driveline being worked on. going back to the original dark blue with tan interior. removing the headliner backing on the convertible hardtop was a b___ch. wanted to use chemical remover but afraid to damage the fiberglass. front bumpers converted to 72 style with the smaller chrome overriders. working on rear now....removing the rubber overrider brackets and going with the stainless steel plinth under the middle bumper section.
anyone have any experience in this....what I was thinking was leaving the space for the rear license plate, the plate lights go under the middle section and I was thinking the middle section between the taillights would be body colour (fill in the overrider mounting holes in the rear valance.....any thoughts?

well, the princess now has her lipstick on. looks good in the original dark blue. the metal fabricator has been amazing in his workmanship.
next week the reassembly starts. the driveline is completed by a mechanical shop and should be ready for installation by the end of this month. the interior was completed about an year ago. hoping to have it on its maiden ride for may 1st.

It has been some time since my last post. Attached is a picture from Dec. 2015 where the vehicle is being transported from the bodyshop to the mechanical shop. It was a cold day but things went according to plan.
Transmission rebuilt, engine rebuild is almost done, last stages of reassembly. New oil pump was difficult to obtain but found one...pricey!
I am advised in another week the shop will be installing the driveline. They are almost done redoing the rear end. Next week I will deliver the interior from the upholstery firm to the mechanical shop. After all these years, really starting to take shape.

if all goes according to plan, engine/transmission being installed this week. last week the rear end was completed and installed.
boy that engine is massive. you do not realize it until you see it sitting next to the 6.75 liter rolls Royce engine and it is larger than the V8. delivered it to the shop from Toronto area in the backup of my little Subaru Baja...could not go over 90km/hr as the front was so light it would start to shim at highway speeds...put a condom flag at the end of the transmission output so that no one would rear end me.

That is going to be an outstanding example of a Series 3.
If I may ask a question, I am trying to find the chassis number stamped on the frame on my series 3. I know where the number was on my series 1 but I have spent 2 days checking the frame and I can't find anything.
Could you tell me where the number was stamped on your car. If I know exactly where to look I will take the deep breath and sand the paint off.
Thanks, Hale

Its not on the Picture Frame, or any other part of the frame. The number is stamped on the sloping part of the firewall just left of the Pedal Box (LHD Cars). Same place for RHD Cars, but instead of the Pedal Box, there will be a blanking plate, or, for those RHD Cars that have air conditioners (After Market because Factory air was never made for RHD Cars), a panel through which the air conditioner hoses pass.
The application of the numbers was very heavy handed and therefore, the stamping of the numbers invariably resulted in a dented area where the number is stamped.

Brent

Hi Hale. Brent is spot on with the first location on the firewall. From what I remember, there are two additional areas. One behind the rear license plate. It is not stamped into the chassis, rather it is like the Build Plate....it is a strip of metal riveted to the rear license plate area valance. Most times this rots right off by itself, or when you attempt to take it off. Most people just leave it off when restoring the chassis. If you want to be period correct, you can make a new one and rivet it back. I used the punches from my local locksmith (they have assorted alpha numeric sizes) and installed this after the paint spray.
The other location is on top of the front right frame rail extension where the shock absorbers tie into. Even from the factory this was difficult to see with the paint which would be sprayed into the recess areas of the stamping. As well, with rust, sanding/grinding/replacement of rails, it become even more difficult if not impossible to see it.

A couple of pictures taken today when I visited the shop. Driveline, brakes, suspension, rear, steering all installed. Interior started. Starting to really look forward to riding her.
Well there were some delays, but now in the last stages. Basically parts of the interior panels and the soft top need to be assembled. The conversion to the chrome over-riders from the original rubber over-riders turned out great.
sorry about the upside down pictures folks. they do not show up upside down on my desk top. hopefully this next set will not rotate improperly. the original rims were just repolished manually and they turned out virtually like new.
