Question Another question

Hi all, it's me again with another question about my 68 FHC.
It is time to install the Radius arm mounting cup to the under floor. When it was removed from the old rusty floor pan it had been held in place with rivets. I don't think that is how the factory attached this part. It has several holes in it for the rivet, but can anyone confirm if in fact this part is held in place with rivets? If so, are they special rivets or just regular steel pop rivets?
Thanks,
Bill.

I'm sure it should be spot welded in place. You could Mig weld it though the rivet holes to the new floor if you have a Mig.

Thanks for the response Alfred. I have both, mig and spot welder. I just want to do it the correct way as done at the factory. Have looked at a bunch of books and I still can't find a definitive answer.
Thanks,
Bill.

Hello Bill,
If you want to maintain originality and correct look, the cup is attached with a combination of spot welds and huck rivets. When attaching this part, I use huck rivets, as per original and plug, MIG weld through holes drilled in the base flange to replace the spot welds.

Regards,

Brent

Thank you Brent, for the information on the rivets. I did order some of these special rivets and have already received them. Now, to figure out the correct way and orientation of the rivets. I have to say, I feel more comfortable knowing that there are supposed to be spot welds as well.
Thanks again for the information.
Bill.

Bill,

Almost every member posts either a QUESTION or an ANSWER. It helps draw attention to your post if you use a relevant thread title. In this instance I'd have used something like Radius arm mounting cup - fixing method?

This also helps in forum and internet searches if anyone is looking for the answer to the same question.

Just a suggestion.

Graham

Hello Bill,
The Huck rivets will do a good job by themselves, but the original stop welds, or the facsimile of plug welding is added insurance. As well as the Huck Rivets, you need a special tool to apply them. Its an expensive tool to buy and most companies that specialize in this rivet system normally have the tool to hire.

Regards,

Brent
