New etype owner and first time posting. I recently needed to have a couple core plugs replaced on the passenger side. The engine was recently rebuilt before I bought the car so was already annoyed that this repair was needed. Anyways took it to a local Jag mechanic who has been working on jags for over 40 years. He replaced the plug and sealed it with JB Weld but he put it like all around the plug. See picture below. I didn’t necessarily plan to enter the car in shows but this repair looks awful. Am
i wrong? Ps. He also left a couple drops of weld on the painted frame rails.
I would clean it up the best I could and paint it to match the engine. Or, clean it up and put a thin layer of black silicone over the area.
Cheers, Bob S
This is why I learned, long ago, to work on my own cars. I’ve never found anyone who will do the work to my satisfaction.
JB Weld isn’t ideal for sealing a core plug. I usually use an rtv sealant on them. What’s done is done now, I suppose and it seems to be sealing ok.
I think I would just carefully add some black paint.
Yeah I do some diy but didn’t necessarily have all the tools to do the core plugs having never done them and didn’t want another project. Just wanted to get it fixed and enjoy the car. In any case I’m gonna call the mechanic on Monday. Best I can tell the plug is also sitting a little proud of the block which it should be flush, maybe that’s why he slapped on that much jb weld. I didn’t necessarily plan to show the car in any events but would feel embarrassed to now even if I did. I think he’s gotta redo it.
In addition he also got a few drips of weld on the frame rails, left a 13mm wrench near the vin plate and left an a/c pulley just loose in the engine bay. (We removed the a/c since the ac clutch needs repair/rebuilt).
