The below 3 pics (which appear far larger than I expected!) show my S1 4.2 FHC driver's side firewall with a wound steel clip holding the vertical leg of the plunger for my brake master cylinder. The first picture orients us; the second picture shows 2 ends of the wound steel spring / clip, and the 3rd picture shows the same clip with picture taken directly above. My question is: "Is this clip a standard BOM part of the braking system?' It's been here for at least 35 years, but now the 'tucked' end is slipping out of its engagement point, and this is causing braking problems as the clip loses its functionality vis a vis the plunger.
Anyway....I can't find any image of this spring / clip, and I am confused (and sadly not very mechanical).
Thanks for any comments.

Rigid steel clip restraining vertical leg of plunger. View of the physical clip holding the vertical leg and the 'tucked under' opposite end of the clip. This opposite end, tucked under, picture from directly above. The tucked end slips out, releasing the clip, affecting braking.
Hi Brad,
I believe that part is the brake pedal return spring C25495, available from the usual suppliers for around $15. In my experience the common failure mode is fracture on the coiled part, but it looks like yours is bending at the "tucked" end. I would try a new one first but it is also possible the pedal housing is worn to the point that it won't stop the spring from unwinding. I hope that's not the case.....that problem would be difficult to solve without replacing the housing. Cheers, Richard
Thank you very much Richard! I could not find the PN for this, nor an image / picture in my handbook....so I started to grow paranoid that this piece was a vestigial 'home repair' from the 70's or something.
