Recently, while watching an online video on how to determine whether a Series 1 E-Type has all its factory accoutrements, I got a glance at something that I have never seen before. It was a small decal at the center of the bottom edge of the windshield (windscreen) that reads: "Triplex Laminated" or similar. Are reproduction decals available from any supplier and can you tell me what model years should have the decal?
I contacted Terry's Jaguar Parts and they told me that the decal is correct for a Series III. Since I have a Series 1, I do not wish to use the wrong decal. I found a company in the UK that supplies this decal. Does anyone know whether this is correct for a Series 1?
I’m pretty sure your Series 1 E-type predates U.S. Federal Standard 205 by several years so the yellow decal would not be appropriate. The earliest reference to Standard 205 that I could find was 1972.
As far as I know, no Series 1 E-type came equipped with a windshield sticker.
I believe that you are correct. That U.S. windshield glass standard probably began in 1972. I am searching for the clear-body decal that simply reads: Triplex Laminated.
Here is a link to a video that shows the correct windshield decal for Series 1s:
