Default crankshaft pulley bolt

I got tired of waiting for warmer weather so I started working on the ignition issues on my '68 2+2. So now that I have new points installed I want to turn the engine to set the gap. What size is the large bolt on the front of the crankshaft pully? 1 1/2 or 1 5/8? I need to head out and get a socket tomorrow and hate making two trips.

Just did that in warmer weather. Sorry can't remember the size, think it's a metric one I used. But, I have a full set of tools. 1 5/8 might fit. Sockets are not expensive if you just buy generic. Buy both. Get 1/2 inch drive.

I found a 1 5/16 socket that worked OK. Just a bit of fiddling to get around the frame support. I was surprised to find the bolt loose and able to turn until it hits the locking tabs. Oh well, more to fix on the weekend. I'll probably need new locking tabs once I torque the bolt back down.

Good glad you got it. It is tough to get it from the top unless you have a short socket. Not too bad from under the car though.

Thanks for the details. For sure clockwise makes sense. It took a while but I flattened the lock tabs, torqued the bolt and locked it all up again. On to the next fix on the long list.
