Default Fuel light question

I turned my lights on yesterday and my fuel light lit up (yellow). I have plenty of gas and a new fuel pump that I checked while the car was running and it was chugging along. Curiously, I turn the lights off, fuel light turns off... hell, I never even noticed the fuel light before yesterday! Thoughts?

Sounds like a shorted/grounded wire to me. Check the wires behind the gauges.

3 thoughts. If when you turn on the lights you are using the main beam, the light and the fuel indicators may be reversed. If you are on dip beam that is not it. Obviously this requires someone to have fiddled with the wiring. Sometimes I find there can be light leakage from the the dash lights to the fuel indicator especially if the indicator and wire connector are not seated well. Remove the wire and see if the indicator still appears lit. Some tape over the rear of the bulb will cure that. If the light went out, suspect the fuel level sender. It can fail even when the fuel gauge still works.
