during shipping from Hawaii (will name the company if anyone is interested in avoiding them) the driver side door got jammed shut. no apparent physical damage to the outside just a door that will not open. company admits it was working fine in Hawaii but says they are only responsible for cosmetic damage and this is mechanical.


any thoughts on how to free it up?

Like all cars of the 60s, these cars were easy to steal. If you can find somebody who knows, you can poke a piece of bent wire down the window aperture and "trip" the mechanism.

 

Does it open from the inside latch?

 

thanks, it turns out the latch mechanism was working fine you could hear it activate when either the inside of outside handles were pushed. god only knows what they did during shipping but the solution was to have a partner hold the outside door handle button in while I sat in the passenger seat and gave a good health push to the inside of the door with both feet. after that we adjusted the strike plate and all worked fine.
