Default My 1968 E-Type 2+2 restoration thread

In the last 2 weeks, my father found a 1968 E-type 2+2 just two and a half hours away, so we went for a drive to check it out.

It was the one, and there was much rejoicing

We live in WA state, and the drive took us into the island counties (a rather lengthy drive coming from the mountains, but not bad considering how uncommon E-type's pop up on the radar here). We decided it was an excellent candidate for restoration, so we gave the guy a chunk of the money, and came home with an entire king cab pickup truck load of NOS, and like new parts! The car is visually rust free, even in the outter floors! The interior is all there, and in good knick, just needs a headliner and carpets. The engine needs the carbs, starter, and cooling system installed, but we have all those parts, including a dual Weber setup I've never seen before. All of the chrome is in perfect shape, except for the right side rear bumper, which is juuuust starting to show initial signs of bubbling. All the glass is perfect, not even any sand blasting on the windshield! It has some dents in the top, and over the left side hip, but everything else is straight. All in all an excellent subject for restoration!

We took delivery of the car yesterday, the 23'rd of June, and I brought my DSLR to get some good pickup shots of it before we stored her for the time being. We have several projects that we are dropping and selling to facilitate restoration of the E-type. Today I'm headin' over to the workshop to help my dad desecrate a wrecked 230SLK Merc with sawzall's only thing good left in it is the engine, so we're gonna winch it onto the lift, cut the subframe out with the engine attached, and lift the body off the powertrain. Then we'll kick the 4 banger outta the way, and cut up the rest until it fits in a pickup truck bed, and take it to the dump. Then we have a boat and 2 spare engines for that to tune and sell, then we have an 80's Merc 380SL and 5 tops (the old man likes to mix and match) that's gotta go, and the good 230SLK will go as well.

Our goal for the year is to get the car running, and road worthy by the end of the summer, and attend some local car shows as a work in progress.

My father passed up his one real opportunity in life to own an E-type when he bought the hosue that my sister and I eventually grew up in, so this is a long time coming for him. He passed on his dream of owning an E to me, and now we have the perfect project to work on together in his retirement.

Hieric,
Sounds like you guys bought a good project that can be back on the road soon. Let us know how it goes. If you have any questions ask and someone will answer. Enjoy the your E-type

Congratulations on your acquisition. Check out my lengthy detailed thread on the work I have done to bring my father's 1968 2 + 2 back on the road.

Default Restore 67 2+2

I found one I want to buy to restore. Been sitting covered outdoors for several years. I'd like to know what you paid for yours to help me negotiate.
