Need some help on XKE project evaluation (please)
Hi guys - total newbie here hoping to get some coaching on a potential XKE 2+2 buy. Car is a bit rough, price reflects that, but I am not sure it is reflects it enough if that makes sense.
Car was sold by these folks to a local Jag collector. He is downsizing and I have a chance to pick it up. It is a 4 speed wire wheel car, appears to be pretty solid but what do I know.
Bonnet has some small dents that are hard to see in the pictures. Biggest concerns are the driver side door droops 1/2 once opened. Metal under driver side door at the very bottom of the sill does not look as crisp to me as it seems like it should.

Thank you in advance for any insight you can share.

These cars are worth a large sum of money when fully restored, but the downside is a lot has to be spent to do it !
The car you're looking at is a Series 3 and has the magnificent V12 engine. Almost all the parts you'll need to restore the car are available, even new body shells ! However, prices for parts can be high. If you are prepared mentally that restoring such a car will probably take several years then go ahead provided the price is right.
I looked at the link, and the car doesn't look bad at all, but paint and filler can hide a lot of rust. What sort of price is being asked ? Engine compartment looks very tidy BTW. Interior is doggy, and this can be expensive, especially leather seat covers. Again it is all available at a price !

This is £8667 in the UK, so about the right price for a non-runner with a lot of work needed, but not a total basket case. In the UK a restored car would be worth £60k+ (or $90k). However, prices of restored E-types may not be so high in the USA
The link to the ad shows it is sold, hopefully it is your car now. If I read the posts correctly, 13 grand is a very good price for a V12 E type that is at all decent. Even if it needs some work, you should be able to enjoy it, and sell it for more than you paid if you decide to let it go.
