Default No water circulating xke 4.2

My 1970 xke 4.2 with triples will not circulate water. I have replaced thermostat, water pump (both were good). Removed hoses on radiator and water runs freely from top to bottom. Any other thoughts? Thanks

Hi beruik,
If I were in your situation and had already checked the pump, thermostat, and the radiator for water flow, my next step would be to flush the block. I don't know if there is a simpler way to confirm the coolant is flowing through the block, but that is what I would do.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Bill.

Thanks Bill. My block has a bolt instead of a drain. I will remove it and also remove thermostat and put thermostat hose back and see if water flows. Let you know what happens.

Have the replaced the hoses? One of our cars had a failing hose... looked and felt fine from the outside, but a piece on the inside tore loose and hung down like a flap, impeding the flow. This also happened on a brake hose, which made the braking one sided.

the inside tore off

Did this problem just arise? I would take a careful look at the thermostat housing. There is room for error when converting to triples with a new manifold. Good luck.

Default No circulation.

Thanks all for you thoughts. The hoses are new last year and in good shape. Will try to drain block to see if have restrictions this week. The problem occurred last fall and I did not address the problem until now. Has anyone familiar with the block or head being so clogged as to restrict total flow.

Yes. I let my 68 E-type sit for about a year and a half as I was doing all the body work and rebuilding the front and rear end and adding some insulation to the interior. Bad mistake not draining the coolant. After all the work, I finally went to start it up and discovered the water/coolant was not circulating. I removed the water pump and hard green crystal gunk had completely blocked the passage ways. Popped off the T-stat and found some of the same goop there too. I managed to clear the opening, flushed it with water, installed new pump and T-stat, flushed the radiator, added fresh coolant and water and fired it up with no problems. Got lucky :-)

Thanks Vick, Flushed block and was not too bad. Started up and took short driven and overheated. Only thing left was to flush radiator.as I was bending over radiator I touched radiator fan thermostat wire and fan stopped. Tightened connections and now works well. A simple loose wire caused the problem.

Hi bcruik,
Glad to hear the problem is solved. Now it is time to enjoy the drive.
