Default Outside mirror mechanics

This is not strictly an XKE problem but since my mirror is on my XKE, it is.

How to remove the mirror from the mounting bracket should be readily apparent just by looking at it. Just loosen the nut (arrow) until it will come off. Nope.

Don't know what I'm missing but it seems to tighten at both clockwise and counter-clockwise.

Help would be appreciated. Somehow the mirror glass got broken while garaged and I'd like to try to replace it.

My car with a mirror that looks like yours, has a nut that loosens the mirror for adjusting and a separate lock screw that allows the mirror to slide off the base when loosened.

Thanks Bill. Does the screw allow you to remove the mirror from the arm?

Yes it does and it is quite visible. Perhaps our mirrors are different.

Good luck.

Apparently it is only visible if you know where to look. At your urging, I looked underneath the arm and !!** there it was **!!. Plain as day. Sorry to have been so obtuse. Thanks for all your help.
