Default Radio Antenna Location…

The antenna on my 1970 2+2 left hand drive is also on the left front near the windshield. Looking at pictures tonight I have seen other 1970 E Types with antennas on the right rear. Anyone know the correct routing of the cable from the right rear to the radio?
PS- My antenna also not retractable and to me is too large in diameter so I may change it out if I can figure out how to remove the left wall panel.

Default Left hand drive, right rear antenna

The antenna cable in this E was routed along the right side of the car, then under and through the boot bin (hinged piece), along the trans tunnel and up and back to behind the radio. I did take my dremel to trim out some of the metal under the carpet/hardura/whatever so that the antenna cable wasn't mashed.

I bought an antenna that goes down completely in that rear section. I got mine from Ebay, but this Moss offering is identical. The little key is to pull it up. Helps during storage and not putting car cover pressure on the antenna, and no holes cut in cover. I did have to buy an antenna cable extension to get all the way from the back end to the radio.

That is the exact antenna I have on my 356SC and it is barely visible when retracted. Easy to get to on the 356 as everything is exposed when one opens the door and peaks in the opening. Not so on the E Type. Cannot see anything when the door is open and the covering on the inside sidewall is glued on somehow. I’ll investigate further when I get the E Type back from the shop after the new brake system is installed. Picture shows the antenna retracted on my 356 just forward of the side mirror.

If the hole for the antenna is not drilled yet, you might consider a modern antenna that is just a cable under the carpet. No hole required. That is what I was going to use on my FHC, except the body shop forgot to plug the existing antenna hole so now I will have to use a regular antenna like the one Valerie mentioned.

Not the end of the world so I might just stay at the front location and go with the smaller retractable antenna mentioned above. The one there now is huge, non retractable, and looks terrible. Will decide soon in a short time. As it is now I have a lot of minor things to repair or replace to make the car more road worthy. Cosmetics a bit later.
