I'm ordering an interior kit for my Series 1 67 rdstr. I've noticed that the vendors refer to reclining seats.
My seats fold forward.
How can a 2 seater have reclining seats? what does this mean?
Was the back of the seat originally leather, moquette, or vinyl.
I need to know what to specify before I place the order.
Thanks for any help.
They are likely talking about seats that look like this. These are redone seats and the recline lever is clearly aftermarket but it allows the seat the recline. I know some folks took the recline mechanism out (they tended to rust) and used a chromed aftermarket hinge that doesn't recline. I've never owned a '67, had a '68 and a '64 (which had the older non-reclining buckets) and have a '70 now. The '68 and '70 seats reclined. As you point out they can't go back very far but it was handy if I didn't want to hit my head on the top when I hit a bump. seat with aftermarket recline lever, stock is black metal. But if you pull it up the seat should both fold forward and recline when you push it back.
I am not sure about 67s, but the seats on my 68 roaster did recline and folded forward. The back of the seat was vinyl. I have seen some earlier E-Types with a fabric like material on the back of the seat. I will be doing the interior on my coupe in about a year. Who are you ordering the interior from? Please let us know how you like the product you purchase and post photos of the interior when it is done.
Good luck.
Hi Mherwald
This is what the JCNA judges guide says about seat material.
4.2 - Leather with 6 pleats - Moquette or vinyl on back - change point chassis number unknown - Moquette at least through 1E33453 (September 13, 1966)

Thanks all for the answers provided. I'm going to order vinyl back. My seats don't recline.
My serial # is 1E.14484. I'll be happy to mention whom I'm buying my interior kit from if it is permissible.
Since I'm new to this forum I don't want to unknowingly break any rules. Maybe a moderator can advise me.
As long as you do not have an interest in any way with a particular supplier, it should not be a problem to review a product. I think it is important however, to always offer full disclosure when reviewing a product you purchased or used. I believe this community depends on the reviews we can provide. Good companies supplying good products should be rewarded with our patronage.
What Daytona said. Promoting a product you have an interest in is bad, but forums are about sharing information and if you find a vendor you like and that did a good job (or bad really) there should be no problem with the post.
I'm buying my interior from BAS International in the UK. I have no connection with them other than being a customer.
I attended Goodwood and Beaulieu last September and was impressed with their display.
I took their catalog and when it was time for an interior I contacted them among others.
There prices were very competitive and so far their communication has been excellent.
It will take 6-10 weeks for the order to arrive.
If the interior looks like what I saw at the shows I'll be very happy.
If you have dealt with BAS International please let me know how it went and what I need to look out for.
Thank you.
Hi again mherwald,
I have been considering BAS as well for my interior. I am curious as to why you are ordering the interior from the UK? I thought they were in Canada.
What color interior did you go with? Did you order the complete interior (seats, door cards, carpets, headliner, finishing trim)?
Bill.
BAS have been around ever since I started with Jaguars (a Mark 2) in 1979. Whilst I have never bought any trim from them, I understand they supply excellent stuff. There aren't all that many firms that do Jaguar trim, the other ones I know about are (1) Aldridge Trimming, and (2) John Skinner Ltd. How their prices compare I don't know. No doubt there are others.
Sorry for the delay.. I attended Beaulieu and Goodwood last Sept and BAS was at the show. I spoke with the representative and took home there catalog.
I shopped around and realized that the prices were very competitive. That coupled with my impressions from the shows and the quality of there samples convinced me to place the order with them. I ordered the complete interior kit, top and boot and lots of misc items. I chose biscuit for the interior and blue for the top.
They were very good with communication. I should have everything in 6-8 weeks. I will give my final opinion then.
