Default Studs for 1964 E-Type 3.8 engine

Currently rebuilding such an engine, an unfortunately it's not a virgin, somebody has been in it before without proper knowledge. The studs on the engine are 13 short ones and 1 longer. One was installed upside down. So I need 3 more of the long ones, for the engine hoist brackets, rows 2 and 6? But my parts guy's webpage also talk about a an alignment dowel, where should that go?

Thanks, but it doesn't seem to apply to my engine. I only have studs that are threaded into the top of the block, so all 6"+something. The good text you had, is there something similar for my engine (RA75xx)

Actually, just got it solved.

Studs, yes the dovel stud was there, and in the right place. So I just need to buy 3 that has the extra length for the lifting eyes.

Thanks

All engines were short stud until the 4.2 came along, then, at the 7L blocks, the studs were extended into the bottom of the engine via the coolant jacket. This is when all the trouble started with block cracking etc. One of the short studs is a dowel-stud, and you've found this. As I remember it goes at the rear of the engine, but I cant remember whether left or right stud.
