Vibration on Acceleration
New to the forum, so I thought I'd post an issue I have. I have a 69 E-Type and recently I'm getting some vibration that I can feel through the seat and steering wheel car when I accelerate. If I take my foot off the pedal, the vibration goes away. If I put the clutch in and rev the engine while driving, I don't get the vibration. Prior to getting this vibration, I would sometimes get a heavy "clunk" sound when accelerating hard. I'm thinking that it's the prop shaft bearings, but when I get under the car, I can't feel any play in the prop shaft when I try to rotate or move it. I also can't get a good grip on it, so I really don't know if it's tight or loose.
From what I've read, replacing the prop shaft bearings requires dropping the rear end to remove the prop shaft. I'd rather not go through all that if I'm not confident, that that's the problem. Any ideas on how I narrow down the source of the vibration? I searched the forum, but couldn't find a related thread. On another note, I get vibration in the steering wheel at 50 mp. It doesn't seem to be related, but it's something else I need to address.

Thanks Bob. The U-joints are most likely the culprit. I was hoping it may be something else that would be a quicker fix. Heading to Stowe VT this weekend for the British Invasion, but I don't think I'll push it in the Jag with this going on. :-( Looks like I'll be driving the MG this time.
Hi NH_ETYPE,
For the steering column vibration, check your wheels for broken spokes, if wire wheels, or bent if steel wheels. If they appear OK, then swap them front to back and see if it goes away,
Have fun in VT, post picture when you get back.
