Whereabouts of my old '68 "E"?
Lost my storage space, so had to sell my Series 1.5 convertible back in early 1990s'. Was / is S/N 1E16456. Last I heard, was shipped to Norway for resto. A Google search reveals an E with that S/N, but a later year and series. Any leads???
The whole Series 1 - 1 1/4, 1 1/2, 2 can be confusing, It was never a Jaguar nomenclature till more recently. To Jaguar it was Series 1,2,& 3 period. But collectors started to break it down in finer number because of USA federal mandates. Closed headlights W/toggle switches, open headlights W/toggle switches, open headlights W/rocker switches, open headlights W/rocker switches and turn signal lights below the bumper.
Well, Jaguar Heritage Trust apparently has made a determination of the chassis numbers for Series 1 & series 1 1/2. Your chassis number is close to the end of the 1967 series 1 1/2 cutoff number of E1 16652. 1968 Series 1 1/2 starts with E1 16653. According to Jaguar Heritage chassis number 1E 16456 should be a 1967 series 1 1/2 LHD OTS See link below

I could see E1 16456 being called a series 1 or series 2 and a 1967 or 1968 depending on how the country registers vehicles. What series and year did 1E 16456 have when you did your Google search?
I owned a flat floor roadster that was built the last week of September 1961 and it was titled as a 1962 vehicle in Michigan. The new owner, also a Michigan resident, had the title changed to 1961 vehicle.
So I hope this helped
