F-Pace on Top Gear
Spoiler Alert
Tonight's episode (S23E02) asks the question that has long puzzled mankind: what’s the best sporting SUV to deliver an A-list musician to the highest pub in Africa - the F-Pace, Macan, or Mercedes GLC. For reference, the cars were all diesels, with the Merc as the only 4-cyl.
It was a typically contrived head-to-head as Top Gear is want to do.
- The first segment was a timed road race segment on city roads (won by the Macan over the F-Pace by few tenths of a second).
- The second leg was an off-road challenge to see which car could complete the course with the least spilled drinks (most effectively cheated by the Merc team for the win)
- The next section was a "stealth" hunt to find wildlife. It's hard to say what this was really testing; mostly luck and a chance to take in the scenery.
- The last section was the final race and it involved some moderate off road and rally conditions.
Overall, the Macan was the official "winner," with the F-Pace second. But, again, it wasn't really a true competition. They did make special note that the F-Pace was the only one to finish all its tasks with nothing breaking or falling off.
I miss Clarkson and Co. who I think would have at least given some real, personal feedback.
No doubt Jeremy would have snagged the Jag, Hammond the Porsche, and Captain Slow with the Merc.
Waiting for the Fall.

The old Top Gear would also have hammered the F Pace on the thimble they call the fuel tank.
There were bits of this episode that made us laugh but overall Chris ruins it with his inane laughing and screeching. That Mclaren does nothing for me like the F1 and the F1 GTR they had on, to me it is nothing special because it is another $400,000 car in a sea of Ferraris, Lambos, and a casual observer would not notice the differences between the MP4-12C, 650 and the 675.
The F1 is an iconic car because it was the first to go 241 in an era of complete crap sports cars outside of the Viper, Diablo and F40 everything else was dull and boring.

Huh, guess I'm not the only 1 disappointed in the gas tank. Precisely why I crossed it off my list. 375 to vacation home and with that puny tank I'm dead empty even it it dfoes get 25 mpg. Like that nice big 27.7 gal tank in my RRS!!!!
The only time I recall the guys calling out fuel capacity was on Jeremy's old Ford GT - where they joked that the range was slightly less than his commute to the studio. A bit of exaggeration, even then. The GT has a tank size of 17 gallons, although it only gets 10-12 mpg.
