I believe it holds 17 litres. I usually put in 10 litres when I get the message.

Welcome to the forums robgosty,

The warnings are sequential and the instrument panel displays a series of messages when the DEF level gets low:

1st message: the DEF level is at a level where a top up is advised.
2nd message: accompanied by an AMBER warning icon and states to refill the DEF tank.
3rd message: starts a countdown of the distance remaining until the DEF tank is empty, after which the vehicle will fail to start.
4th and final message: accompanied by a RED warning icon and is displayed when the distance remaining is zero and states that no further restarts are possible until DEF is added to the tank.

Although I currently have a petrol F-Pace, this replaced a diesel Porsche Cayenne and the DEF top up is a similar process. Retail DEF bottles are 1.9 litres and it will take two to refill from the AMBER warning. You cannot overfill - the refill bottle connector is designed to shut off when the tank is full and close when it is removed. Here's the procedure from the Jaguar handbook:

DEF is available at much lower cost in 5 litre containers. It was possible to remove the top of the VW/AUDI bottles and refill them. It's likely Jaguar ones are similar.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Just to be clear,
It may not be possible to overfill with the small specific bottles but here in Norn Iron most garages have general 10 liter tubes you screw on and dont shut off when disconected.
from this i am guessing is where all the posts about no starts due to overfills come from ( not Norn Iron but use of non specific bottles)
