Spent pretty much all Friday afternoon with the salesman on the phone and email getting me everything on the car's background, photos and what they had done to it to bring up to CPO status. This being said, I was ready to walk if there was something wrong or I didn't like, but it was nearly flawless upon inspection. I drove it the 1,400 miles home that afternoon and Sunday. I really enjoyed dealing with the guys at the West Palm dealership. The car has been near perfection to date (put about 10,500 miles on it), not even a rattle.

I was fortunate to find a close-to-flawless car in the exact color-options combination I wanted. Like the other responses, it also depends on the price. My car has 13k and needed new tires (which I didn’t know about), but I was buying for an excellent price and honestly figured that if it arrived in 90% of the described condition I would be fine. That said, it was better than described and I was actually
happy to have my own tire choice. I have also purchased approx. 12 vehicles over the internet/phone and flew to pick them up. I have only used the back half of the round trip ticket once. Best of luck.
When you say you looked though the background of the car, did the dealers provide you with the service history? I am looking for a F-type S right now and having a hard time with dealers giving me anything beyond the carfax, inspection checklist and a list of what they did to bring it to certified status. Most of them refuse to provide a service history despite the Jaguar website stating it is available to them in an electronic database.

Yes, the dealership not only provided me the history of the car when it was leased in southern California when they replaced the battery 5 times because of what was likely the now well understood "low battery, start engine soon" message and it was returned under the lemon law (each instance documented), the West Palm dealership provided documentation of the upgrades they did to the car after purchasing it at auction and getting it ready to be a CPO (about $8,800 worth of service and parts).

Thats interesting, the dealer I was going to buy from gave me everything from the time they got the car as a lease return but nothing before that. The car has a simple history on car fax, leased out through a sister dealership nearby and returned to the same one. Then certified and put up for sale at this dealership. Despite this, the dealer gave me BS about not having access to service records and stopped responding to me, I don't know if this is just a terrible sales person or they are trying to hide something. Another thing i noticed was that the service records from the time they got the car back from the lessee and the certification has the cost listed as 0.00. Other dealers i got records from for other cars specified exactly how much they spent on the certification. The car is far from me but is the perfect color combo and a great price so I'm torn between walking away for good and going over to get a third party inspection.

The dealers only have access to warranty repair history if the repairs are performed @ another dealer. There is no national data base with customer pay or internal history. The invoice copies the dealer would provide will all show no charge as they are showing you a customer copy. This is the same for a warranty repair order, they never show the customer pricing as it is all no charge to you. The only copies that show pricing are for internal purposes & as they show cost you will never be provided those copies.
