Take the S2000 for example. The major changes over the life of the model were:
1) glass rear window replaced plastic rear window.
2) 2.0L engine replaced by lower revving 2.2L engine.
3) drive by wire replaced cable throttle.
4) 17" wheels replace 16" wheels.

The features I personally like best are the glass rear window, 2.0L engine, cable throttle and 16" wheels. The only year that has this combination is 2003. So, I think 2003 was the pinnacle for S2000 production.

All that said, I think that I'm going to wait for the 2017 F-Type before I buy one.

Inline 6 for '17 was plan so I assume '17 will be later in year. The diesel and 4 from this series of engines are already in pipeline for XE but it appears F Pace gets our V6's so who knows. You can always wait till '18 to be sure or simply wait forever and never have to worry about missing something.

I'm also looking at ordering in Dec/Jan but if it turns out I'd be ordering a never before seen, and never before heard inline 6, I will not order.

I want the V6 because I know what it sounds like. And I want exactly that.

I have heard from Jaguar representatives that the V6 is in no danger of going away any time soon...

I'd rather have an engine that has been around for over two years. I learned my lesson on my wife's 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. I'll take the V6 (or the V8 if they offer it with a manual).

I had an AP1 (2.0L) S2000 way back. Your point is spot on, sometimes the new model changes are not desirable (for some). I didn't like the AP2 at all, lost its character. Wishful thinking, I'm hoping they roll out a spider version of the F-Type :-)

Definitely yes. BMW built their entire reputation on the various I6s, which have been used in all types of models with much shorter noses. If anything, it would free up a lot of space in the engine compartment.

As stated above, will definitely fit, but placement may have to hearken back to the Valiant slant-6 to fit under the low sloping hood of the F-Type..

Doesn't Jaguar release some sort of ordering guide when a new model year is released?
