Default 6 cylinder engine cover pegs

The back two pegs engage with my engine cover, but the front two do not, too far down. It appears that the pegs are screwed in. If I loosen them to raise them, then do I need to double nut them so they don't loosen further and fall out? Adding another nut would take up the threaded space so I could tighten them.
Thank you in advance for suggesting I just take the cover off and leave it off, but not going that route.

The pegs have plenty of thread on them, about 12 mm (I just measured one of mine), so one or two washers on each should do the trick and no need for any nuts.
Strange that they are too low to engage, are you sure you are locating the grommets perfectly above them, they are very fussy and the alignment must be spot on.

Yes, very sure the pegs are aligned. My 2013 Golf has a similar setup. Will use your suggestion to raise them, thank you.

Default Washers did it!

thank you for the suggestion. A bit of a contortion on my 6 cylinder to get a wrench on the pegs. Fortunately they weren't in there very tightly. Stacked two washers on each, lubed the peg and receiver with Lithium grease and on they went. Perfect!

I might have to try that. My front pegs haven’t engaged in years, thought maybe they were bent somehow.

You can be fairly certain that the front two are lined up with the 'receivers' in the cover if the rear two are seated. I doubt my front ones ever were, even from the factory. Goes along with the two bolts that were supposed to hold the RHS headlight assembly not even there.
