Oil Change after 3,700 Miles?
Hi guys,
I only put 3,700 miles on my F-Type R since last year's oil change.
Dealer is trying to convince me another oil change is needed?
It's full synthetic oil and my car is garaged.
Does this make sense?
Thanks

Oxidization, acidity and depletion (use) of additives and modifiers is the reason to change the oil. While the oil is likely still "good," were it my car, I would change the oil myself or take it to an independent mechanic and have it changed.
There are many interesting threads on this topic including an owner or two having their oil analysed by a lab [after so many miles/months] to determine viability. It changed my mind on the subject.
Definitely worth checking out!

You're lucky - when I first got my F-Type, the dealer recommended changing the oil every 6 months! After my response, they didn't bring it up again. That said, I DO change mine every year, even though I typically drive only 3,000-4,000 miles. It's probably not desperate, but there are contaminants that get into the system that start breaking down even synthetic oil. It's easy enough to change your own with a extraction pump, if you're so inclined. And, you can always get the Euro kit that's free after the first round.
Yes, do change the oil more frequently than the 16,000 JLR purports. While the oil for these is pretty pricey, it is a small amount for protecting the major component of the car. Even with our mundane chevrolets and Hondas, they all got 5,000 mile oil changes. While I like my JLR dealer and techs, the last oil change was $225.
Great videos online for doing it yourself.
IMO the best one:
I just changed my oil this past weekend after a year and 4000 miles. Bought Liqui-Moly and filter from FCPEuro. Used friend's manual Mityvac, but bought the compressor-powered version for next time.
I also followed forum advice to get some less expensive oil to use to flush remaining oil. Pennzoil of the same grade and fully synthetic. I used half of that 5 litre jug for the flush. The Mityvac got @ 7.25 litres out (before I did the flush) and that's what I put back in. Oil level indicated spot on.
Also sent in a sample to Blackstone. This link will get you a free test kit and the postage is prepaid. You can pay online and you get an order number that you can put on your order slip that goes with the sample.
