Update:
Service rep called and said car would be ready tomorrow afternoon. Interestingly, she said that the Factory wanted them to ship the radiator back ASAP so they could figure out what failed.
Coincidentally, I received the obligatory satisfaction call from Jaguar (Customer Service ?) thanking me for my purchase and wanting to ask a few questions about my experience...
First Q: How do you like the car?
A: well, it has been in the shop for 5 of the 9 days elapsed since picking it up. Not off to a stellar start...
{... awkward silence...} We are so sorry to hear that...
Thanks for the update. It would be great if you could get a straight, credible answer as to what failed, but that's not always easy. You just don't see radiator failures very often.
I picked the car up yesterday afternoon. The rep mentioned again how rare this was, she said as soon as the part was ordered, the factory requested the failed part shipped back.
Here are the service invoice details: (sorry for lo-fi iPad pic)
Thanks much for posting the work order. Rare indeed, but manufacturing defects do happen, or it could have been damaged during vehicle assembly. It could be as simple as someone dropping it on that ride-side corner when removing from the shipping container.
Well, my car was built in October, which I understand is the end of British daylight savings time. I can just imagine the radiator installer dude having a rough day. :-)
The thoroughness of the repair comments...2-hour pressure-test, wash and flush underside, road-test and recheck...some of that is expected; but, it's also nice to see they're trying to return your Jag to its pre-leak newness.
