I spoke with the NAV-TV folks and they sent me a link to a YouTube video they did showing an install on an F Type. It appears from the video that even if you bought your F Type without a backup camera already installed, that their system can plug in and activate both a front and rear camera via the existing display interface in the car. I have the rear view camera option on my car and want to add the front camera to protect against curbs and concrete tire-stops from beating up my front splitter.


I contacted my local Jag dealer and the service manager finally responded that they would not do the install because they thought they might have liability if I had an accident since the cameras could be activated while the car was in motion. They are correct in saying that the cameras can be accessed while in motion but the OEM system for reverse camera works that way now! I am not going to argue with them because it's obvious they are not interested in servicing me and not being able to charge me for an OEM equivalent product.....they would only be making a mark up on the labor. I looked through the install document, and it didn't look terrible. Except you'd have to install the front camera, which may or may not have harnessing in place. And a way to mount it.

Yes. I think they should have a version of the kit that also includes the front camera and installation instructions.

does it require you to splice wires in the tail lights to activate the camera when put into reverse?

No I just had the NavTv just installed with a backup and forward facing camera. It works flawlessly

Can you clarify what year F-TYPE you have? The installation directions for 2016+ are slightly different than 2014-2015 as there is some tapping involved.

I don't know if you guys noticed but the installation instructions for 2014-2015 and 2016+ are slightly different.

I had a pro installer but he said it is easy the hardest part was pulling the trim off around the lcd screen without marking is the hardest part. Its plug and play and no splicing

what camera(s) are you guys using?
trying to see how much the whole kit will cost, NavTV plus 1 or 2 cameras...and if pro installation is needed or if it can be DIY'd ... or go with the Pearl RearVision for $425, no installation required, camera powers off solar power, but it does transmit the feed onto your smartphone so you have to launch an app each time which is kinda annoying/ghetto lol

My Nav-TV pro (recommended by Nav-TV) installation with both cameras on a Base was $1200.

damn! $1200 is a pretty penny considering im leasing the car...
even if its plug n play and reversible, in 3 years it will be worth maybe $200 as a complete kit in the classifieds section

This would be such an easy DIY job. Set aside a day if you are new to this kind of thing, buy some simple tools and save yourself $600.

Mine (NAV-TV) didn't require any mods, and automatically goes on in Reverse, then shuts off when Drive is selected.

To feed a camera signal directly into the back of the touchscreen (and have it working) you need to modify the Car Configuration File to enable the reversing camera.

It's not plug & play, a software change is needed to get it working.

I have done the same thing on a couple of cars, including my XKR.

You can get adaptor cables that go from Fakra to RCA, I made my own (making cables is a hobby of mine LOL)

What you want can be done. It all boils down to planning. My approach would be to have the cars schematic and the camera's schematic and do your planning on a table. That way you can do your planning comfortably and insure you are error free. It is also helpful to have a complete schematic at a later date for fault finding.
I was going to convert my Lexus GPS into a video (movie) display, but after doing the above planning I found it was complicated and expensive and gave up the Idea. Good luck with your project.
