Default Aftermarket Parts Starting Point(s)

A couple of recent posts I shared on FB, felt like they may hold some value for those also researching here as well:

One the most unique ways owners get to express themselves on our beloved F-Type’s is through aesthetic modifications. There is a vast assortment of products and companies that focus on these types of solutions. From carbon fiber pieces to full wide body kits, with everything in between. Whether you like or dislike what someone else does to their respective car, is really none of your business, until of course someone decides to post up and ask for your thoughts. Once that can of worms is open, all bets are off (although try to keep it civil).

While there are purists out there who shutter at the thought of anything other than OEM, the other end of the spectrum is the air bag loving, wide-body, stance guys who have their F-Types “hard parked” at shows and would never think to track them. To each their own. From adding SVR or P7 style components to the standard S and R models, to adding JLR’s own accessory items like carbon fiber hood/side vents or a fixed OEM wing. There are options for everyone. Some desire their car static and lowered, others hate the idea of modifying the suspension. From gauge pods to Ferrari Style LED shifting steering wheels, the list goes on and on.

For me, it is a matter of personal choice. Your car, your money, your decision. And while there are a range of quality products and companies on the market, there are equally, if not more, no-named, Asia-produced products that look like they came off a fast-food assembly line and never look like the pictures on the menu.

Companies like Maxton, Koshi Group, H&R, KW, Adren, Lister, Velocity, OEM JLR Parts or custom products from the likes of Guardian Designs – shoot even “some” of the knock off solutions out there, spend a ton of money, R&D and time to produce a high-quality part. (Startech, Piecha to name a few) So, when you are looking at a product and ask yourself, “does the cost justify the means?”, the short answer is most often a resounding yes! You get what you pay for, well most of the time. Even if some of the higher quality parts still require modifications and are not entirely plug and play.

There is a new trend where a company will produce a knock off version of something OEM. For instance, there are knock off versions of hood vents, P7 grills, full SVR/P7 front facia replacements, SVR active wing, etc. These are just to name a few. And these items are not inexpensive. In some cases, it would be cheaper to find a wrecked car in the salvage yard and peel away the undamaged parts for your build. Assuming you could even find them.

Pictures on the internet are very misleading, from 5 feet back they look incredible, but the closer you get, the more you realize your beer-goggles are deceiving you. The paint looks rippled, the fitment has panel gaps bigger than a Telsa and worst, the quality of the product is just inferior. Missing clips or mounting points that requires RTV/body panel glue to install and even worse, simply does not fit at all, at least without cutting and refabricating with fiberglass. Unfortunately, sometimes those are the only options available to you.

There are good starting points to research these items however and Alibaba/Aliexpress or Ebay are not the answer. Below are a few of the many companies out there that make or sell quality exterior components. Feel free to add to the list below, so we can have a way for new members to find what they are looking for, with one bit of caution. There are companies out there who mislead and misrepresent themselves as having “in-stock” or available products. In some cases where they have rebranded other companies’ intellectual property as their own. So buyers proceed with caution and do your homework….

There is also something to be said for the companies and products who have a long track record of success, with a ton of customer feedback and backed by dyno results, R&D, transparent collaboration and combined with owners/founders of those respective businesses who don't have hidden agendas.

When you are considering a performance upgrade, sure anyone with access to HP Tuner software or other remapping tools could potentially tune your F-Type. Perhaps they even could tweak things in such a way, that nets different results than their competitors, but when you factor in the amount of R&D these companies have spent to find a "safe" and effective tune for your car, you have to consider that as part of the buying process.

With that said, here are a few of the well-known companies that tune for the F-Type. Everyone's results may vary for a variety of reasons. Some of them publically make it known with who they partner with. So you might be buying from one company, who resells for another. With that said here are a few links to some of the major players:

Pierburg: https://www.pierburg-sa.es/en/about-us/ (upgraded coolant pumps, CWA100-3 (popular version) to help with better coolant flow in an upgraded HX or additional HX added to the system. Something you'd want to do if adding more coolant or expecting faster recovery time.

I am sure there are other examples of this, so feel free to comment your suggestion below.

It's more accurate to say you don't get what you don't pay for - that's always true, while you sometimes can pay more than you get, as you've observed.
