Aftermarket Remote Start?
But yeah, a dealer should be able to help - they should really have set you up when you bought the car (mine did, and I bought used).
Does anyone have a aftermarket remote start on their f type? This in-control app does not work for ****.... Paid $69 for the year and it doesn't communicate with the car. I should have realized all the app reviews were right.
I would be interested in getting an aftermarket remote anyways. They look cool and are normally super reliable with any other car i've owned.
I'm afraid it might be very difficult installing however, and I don't know how comfortable I am allowing someone to put one in who hasn't done it before on our particular car.
Any thoughts?

they told me it will cost $2700 to replace the unit, i told them i wouls rathar add in $10k qnd get another used car.
f pace repair community is bad, no solutions whatsoever, i think its cause jaguar is dying. the company is going bankrupt.
the only aftermarket remote start solution i found is an unknown site selling it for $1200.
you install it too, so not worth.
The fact that Jaguar did not provide a simple remote feature on the key fob is a mystery to me. Using the InControl app (which is iffy at best) to start the car remotely is not even remotely (see what I did there) efficient. In fact it's a PITA.
But ya the app sucks a$$ i can't even open it sometimes.
I personally like having the app, even at a subscription price, because the remote functions are not limited by the operating range of the fob. With an OEM remote fob, you're lucky to get 300 feet of range from it. With the app (provided you have connectivity), you can control the features anywhere in the world. It's nice to be able to lock/unlock when you're nowhere near the car and someone needs to get into it, or to remote start it from the airport baggage claim area before you get on the shuttle to take you to the parking garage.
Convenience has its price.

If the remote start is built into the fob you have to be close to it for it to work. With the app you can be well outside fob range and still have a nice cosy (or cool) car when you get to it. And if you have to be so close it's hardly worth starting it before you get in, surely?
FYI...don't forget that the older Jags were designed using the 3G network. When the 3G network was killed off a couple of years ago, the cars ended up having to rely on 2G. 2G is woefully slow which is why half the time your remote start and other Jaguar InControl functions don't update as they should.
The incontrol app works well on my 2018 F type. When I first got the car it was set up for 3g which was discontinued and JLR installed 4g in my car for free. I was told that the incontrol app should of continued to work any way. I did have a problem one time connecting to the car and JLR North America fixed it remotely, but that was before they replaced the module in the car. I have the old infotainment system with the buttons, the newer screens had 4G to start with.
I just used it today to lock the car from 5 miles away. It does take a minute to connect to the car, the app tells me when it has connected. I like this better than a key fob that you need direct line of site for it to work. The subscription cost is not expensive for what the app does and the information it gathers.

Don't expect that app to update when you first open it. I've had the same 'misreporting' but what happens is the app doesn't always communicate with the car until you send a command. The app will say at the top when it last talked to the car, even if it looks like the data below is refreshed. Click on the Remote icon, wait for it to update and it should say 'Just Now' in the corner, which means it's updated. Now go back to the home screen and the data/status should be accurate.
My app hasn't worked in almost a year. I just opened it up and it is now working. I was advised from folks on here that since my car is a 2016 it is a 2G network which is obsolete essentially.
