AJ126 bad engine noises
Yet another thread with bad engine sounds. I’ve been hearing intermittent light or moderate pinging since last fall (car was stored over winter.) With the engine cover off, after changing the oil, I heard this before the engine warmed up. I had thought I was hearing something resonate or vibrating.

After it was warmed up, I didn’t hear that nasty sound anymore. But there’s an occasional metallic sound, like tapping on it with a hammer. Hard to hear in this video, it only happens a couple of times. Wonder if that’s an occasional ping I’m hearing.

I’m planning to put a couple of thousand miles on it in the next few weeks. Hmm. I did have new spark plugs installed last week. The pinging is maybe improved but not gone.

@DJS Who changed your spark plugs? They may have left a tool in the engine bay that makes a rattling sound. Ask me how I know!
But since the noise calms down when warm I don't think that's it. It sounds like the SC. Remember - the SC is under-filled with oil so you may want to change the SC oil and add an extra 20-50 mL of fresh oil. Document how much you are able to aspirate and do the math. No one on the forum has ever gotten 150mL out, even with complete disassembly and draining upside down.

(scroll down to "Supercharger oil change and coupler replacement")
"At the back of the unit is the oil fill plug- sadly I didn’t take a good picture but it’s in the red circle in the blurry picture. Eaton supercharger oil can be obtained and the fill volume is 150ml. I tipped supercharger upside down and only got out about 85ml of very dirty oil. I’m unsure why there was so little but can only assume that replacing it with the correct volume of fresh oil is a good thing."
Thanks to GFPMotorrad!

I did get a new coupler and snout, back in 2020. I’d have to check the records, but maybe 30k miles ago.
Thanks for the input. I’m still planning to drive it 900 miles next week.
