Aluminum Coolant Pipe Owners - Question for you
Had an interesting set back this morning. On the way to a car show this morning, the coolanr overflow hose, where in plugs into the top aluminum coolant pipe came loose and disconnected. Obviously, I had a fun coolant mess to clean up. Not cool to pull into a car show with smoke coming from underneath the engine LOL.
I was able to reseat the hose, but feel as though it's not very secure. I plan to install a small hose clamp over it to prevent it from coming loose in the future, no big deal, just curious if anyone else has had this issue?

Not yet. Will check it - my mechanic told me the clamps that came with the metal pipers were XXXX and he replaced all of them with good clamps.... FYI. Forgot about this until you just jogged my memory as had a lot done in that service (thermostat, tubes, S/C stuff, water pump, etc., etc.).
Anyway, that may be your issue. He used top end clamps on my car (and I paid for them...).

Oddly enough, I have driven it without issues until yesterday. It currently has a zip tie holding it in place, but plan to throw a standard hose clamp on it when I have time to get to the parts store this week.

Out of curiosity I just had a look at this connection on my car and there is a noticeable difference (besides plastic vs alloy!).
On my OEM plastic two-piece seam welded one the back edge of the nipple where the clip/prongs fit over and grab is much "sharper", deeper and more defined than that on the alloy version. Put another way, the alloy connector piece is much more curved and "slippery" looking and no wonder the hose tends to pop off.
If/when I get an alloy pipe I will file that area down a little so that it presents a nice sharp and defined edge for the prongs to grip behind.

One idea I had was to completely replace the 90-degree elbow setup with a small coolant line, with the bend already in place and just clamp together like a normal coolant line, but have it extend over the tip of the coolant outlet (if what I am saying makes sense). For now I will leave it as is, as I really do not think it will pop out again, but that is my plan if this does not work.

I would assume with as many of these as they've sold, YMMV if this is even an issue. For me, I drove on it fine for almost a month, before this popped off. Probably because of a longer, more spirited run with higher coolant pressure. I think that with the revised design, it is possible this "clip" could click into place stronger, but honestly, it is a stupid design by JLR. Similar to the stupid design on the water pump elbow design. Not sure who to even share this with as most likely its made overseas and resold under many others "brands."
