another reason to hate winter
Just bought some rubber mats for my MY16's first winter. A day after installing them the cabin is filled with a chemical stench—hopefully not indelible. (Remember that Seinfeld episode with the stinky valet?)
I've already reinstalled the original mat on the passenger side—half the rubber, half the odor—and left the windows open.
Questions for those who went through this in previous winters:
• Did the odor ever fade?
• How long did it take?
• Did you give up on the mats?

I was actually thinking of buying rubber mats for my F-Type but decided against them at the last minute. I have rubber [winter] mats in several of my other cars and never noticed any smell either when new or after countless use. So I can't reply to your first two questions but since I do intend on driving throughout the winter without any rubber mat, will simply be mindful about stepping into the F-Type and not worrying too much about what I'm tracking in. It's only a car and cars are meant to get dirty...then cleaned.
Just not yours
. Sell it.
Let the mats sit outside for a week, with hopefully a few days of sun. They were probably manufactured and immediately stuffed in a box. They need to outgas, and you'd rather that happen outside your car.
Good luck with that. Not enough volume for them.
BTW my OEM winter mats don't smell, but they were out if the plastic for a week before installed. They really don't have a lot of water retention volume capability on first glance, but at least they were free (yeah right).

Mine didn't give off any noticeable fumes either. It might have to do with length of time in inventory also.
I'm happy with them, which is good. They were not exactly a bargain.

I remember a set of rubber/carpet mats I had in a previous car: melt water from my shoes collected in the carpet section and refroze. Made for an interesting driving experience until the interior warmed up enough to melt the ice...
+1 for the WeatherTechs. All of my jags are stored for the winter, but I have them for my LR3. Hands down the best thing you can do to protect your carpet from the road salt eating it away.
I checked, and they do make them for the 2015. As far as I know, nothing would have changed to prevent these from fitting in the 2016 (but someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

These are way better than the factory rubber mats in my LR3, as they extend up the sides and behind the pedals, and channel the water out of the car.

It's good that Weathertech have them then!
Only difference is that the locating holes changed on the OEM winter mats between MY 2015 and MY2016. Don't know if Weathertech uses these holes too....

They did change for 2016. It's not just the holes, but the shape too. The difference is slight, but noticeable in direct comparison.
I wonder how much of a difference there is for the 2014?
I think '14 and '15 are the same, and '16 is different from a specific chassis number onwards. I'm not certain though.
That is all correct. From K22185 onwards.
The season that so many seem to dread on Game of Thrones.
While Frenchy's OP I suspect was written a bit tongue-in-cheek, some of us (just not those on GoT) actually look forward to winter and, yes, driving in it. Some of us, yours truly included, even in our F-Types.
