Default Anyone have an F-Type in California with the VelocityAP tune?

Reason I’m asking: I’ve got my 2015 F-Type R back up-and-running with a remans engine (from TAPA).

One of the codes found in the ECU was

CODE P167F-00 WAS LOGGED IN ENGINE ECU.
"NON OEM CALIBRATION DETECTED - AFTERMARKET TUNE"

I didn’t install the tune, so I’m assuming one of the previous 3 owners installed it. I’m assuming it’s the VAP tune I keep reading about. From what I understand, that code is permanently logged there.

Two questions:
1. how can I tell if the tune is still there, or if it was reset to factory settings?
2. If the tune is still there, how might it affect my next smog check in California? (I just passed it with the new engine, but from what I’m reading, an after-market tune might prevent me from passing again in 2 years)

thanks!

You have bigger problem than inspection if the tune is still on the car, possibly with different hardware now.

Email vap your Vin and see if they did your car.

Ask a dealership straight and they shouldn’t have any problem reading your current tune, diagnosis fee may apply.

The P0167F code indicates that at some point, the ECU was written to by a non-certified device. It tells nothing about what image is in place now. The code persists even if the original image is restored because that still counts as a "write."

If the ECU does have an aftermarket tune and you don't have the programmer, you may be stuck with what's there, or pay up at the dealer to have them rewrite the ECU to factory specs. If you just passed now and don't change anything, I think you should be OK at the next test, but there's not a lot of data here on CA cars with tunes and smog checks.

To tell if it has a tune you should be able to get an app like Torque with an OBDC dongle and see what the maximum boost pressure is. If there is a tune in place it will be more than stock. You'd have to search around here to see what that should be but I'm sure the information is here somewhere.
