Are the electronics for the purpose of illuminating the +-? I know you said the characters don't illuminate but is that exclusively what the wires are for? Are you starting with oem paddles and adding on to them or gutting them for the mount hardware?

Also, very important....

Can you shift from any point of the paddle with equal effort or does it torque out of effectiveness as you move away from the shifting pivot point?

What I would like to see from you is to wrap our oem consoles so the paddles will match something in our interior. I'm confused as to your statement that the paddles match the console which is impossible since the console isn't anything close to being CF. I can't picture the door panel from the top of my head but maybe you can pick up a door part to wrap to tie in. Perhaps the rear console pocket.

I think you'd get a lot of action on a complete cf interior conversion. I'd be first in line. The cf paddles alone are too random in our interiors. I would agree that a satin aluminum, or black leather wrap would tie into at least something. The key is not making it look overly aftermarket.

 

Those wires are for the switches, which are on the PCBs you can see. The third wire is the supply for the LED if fitted (they are not on these, and only some of the OEM ones feature LEDs, but the boards and connectors are shared parts).

Jaguar sell the F-Type with real carbon fibre trim pieces from the gear changer surround up to the air vents. It is also available as an accessory set if your car was not specified with them from new. The Jaguar trims are matt because if they were gloss you would be blinded every time the sun was above the car.

The door trims are not carbon fibre, they are patterned aluminium, like the standard centre stack trims are.

If the OP can make these in matt finish I would be tempted by a pair.

* I've used them a few times now and they highly recommend them.

 

I should point out I bought one of the first sets of these and like them a lot. The only pain is getting out and back in the securing screw for each and it is about a 15 minute job if you have big fingers and are big yourself. I'll bet an 8 year old could do it in 5. (The screw is in a really inconvenient place to see). But drop dead easy and the paddles are a ton easier to use though I do find I hit them accidently more often. I like them and would buy them again.

 

If you ever need to swap them over again get yourself an inspection mirror (a flexible shaft is very handy), some 50mm/2" long torx bits and a bit to 1/4" socket adapter. The mirror gives you the flexibility of putting your eyeballs on the ends of your finger tips* so lining up overhand for recessed screws like the ones holding the paddles on is a breeze. Steering wheel in the fully up/out 90 degree left then right position helps too. Put a microfibre cloth over the dials to avoid slipping and scuffing the clear plastic.

(The risk of setting off the airbag is very slim to none but it good practise to not sit in front of the wheel when working on it just in case a gremlin comes along and sets it off.)

 

In addition to turning the wheel to 9 or 3 o'clock, extending the steering assembly helps. I've done many times now and it takes less than a minute.
