Below MSRP
Anyone have success negotiating a buy below MSRP?
I'm thinking about F-Type with no options and wondering where to set expectations, can I go to my dealer with 5% below MSRP and expect to put something together?
If it helps I am in Canada

I think I can predict your results pretty close right now. I'd bet a full 80-90% purchased at below (sometimes subtstantially below) MSRP in the US, but can't speak for Canada. In addition a $2K JCNA discount has also been available for 14-16 model years.
To be honest I have been looking at the lot cars here and they are listed substantially above MSRP based on the sticker prices. E.g. a car that I spec online at 80-85K seems to have a 90-100K sticker on it on the lot. But I will go have a discussion with the sales folks and maybe try some neighbouring cities too since I don't mind buying remote.
You won't get 79K unless you order no-options car.
When I was shopping for F-type, there weren't any no-options 2016 F-types. Few available came loaded with options, pushing them substantially up in price. So I could only order no-options car as 2017, and consequently would be ineligible for discount on 2016.
Running numbers, it would cost me the same to get 2016 F-type S with some options and 2017 F-type with no-options.
Also, this didn't occur to me during test drive, but vision package is must have. Blind spots are brutal on this car.

At the beginning of any given model year, it's probably 2-5%. Late into the model year, it's up to 10-15%. It can go up to 20% or more for a dealer demo, or let's say a '15 model halfway through the '16 model year.

The msrp on our new '16 F-Type was $75,000 I paid $64k for it. But that's only because our Salesperson is a good personal friend and I bought 3 new Range Rover Sports from her since 2012. Up to now they just don't depreciate so they are easy to trade in.
Thanks for the feedback so far. Just finding Jag pricing to be very hard to understand and I don't like to be confused before I even talk to sales.
The cheapest 2016 on my dealer's price list is 120k for an S with only a couple options on it.
The MSRP on an S is 88 so it just doesn't make sense to me.
The options on the list cars don't add up to 32K, it looks like base wheels, base paint, exterior pack and sport seats.
I can spec the same car at 100 using the car builder.
There is a markup there and I am wondering if I am negotiating off that markup or off the price as per the car builder. It does me no good to get 10k off a car that to me seems to be sticker priced 20k over MSRP.

I bought my brand new '16 F-Type R convertible over the weekend for $90K (US). List was over $107K+! The dealer had a special promotion going and the savings was Huge to say the least. It was fate!
Also refuse to pay for BS extras. When I was buying SUMMER CONVERTIBLE one dealer was including winter mats into quote.
Make sure to not fall for 'closing deals', such as window etching (useless), rust protection module, fabric protection and so on.
It is helpful to talk final price, taxes included. Then take the best quote and go directly to a sales manager that has car you want on the lot.
Bought a '16 R a couple of weeks ago from Ontario.
The test is, what it costs you "out the door". The Jaguar Canada web site shows discounts, at the time of my purchase, of $7500 cash/lease discount, $1500 Loyalty discount (if you can show a vin for a previously owned Jag), a $1000 discount if you own a competing mfg car...BMW, Mercedes etc.
Non negotiable were things like freight, prep etc, mats, security marking etc.....the price, including taxes, registration was negotiated, the " discounts " taken into account and then the bill of sale massaged to fit the negotiated price.
Thus, to convoluted to just tell you what the discount under MSRP.....there was one about 4%...but important to know what you are charged for express such as Active Lights....I saw prices of $1700 and $2300 depending on the dealer.
How much "stuff" you do or don't care about....illuminated entry ? Extra leather? Etc. Soon runs into serious cash.
A sales guy long ago kept telling me I'd be very happy with the purchase....which I completed at about $5000 more than I promised myself I'd pay.....and indeed I was. Would have been even happier at $5000 less than I paid.
The problem you have is this.....when you drive home the F Type you WILL be happy.
As my sainted wife tells me from time to time....live as well as you can afford to.
Good luck.

That's the best way to go. Buy a demo. You essentially get a new car at a "used" car price. I got $17K off my car which had only 3 miles on it, but $21K off for only 1.6K miles is pretty good, too.
It's kind of alarming to see the prices of these cars dropping like a rock these days, but I guess it's typical of sports cars....unless you're talking about a Ferrari. But it can't be worse than the Maserati that I traded in. It lost 70% of its value in only 3.5 years!
