My personal feeling is, a front camera alone is like having Liability coverage without Comprehensive. Not to mention the added benefits from some insurance companies if rear video captures evidence.

As you know, these are $100K+ cars that lots of crazy-a$$ people out there don't appreciate for whatever reason. So we're an automatic target for street racers, vandalism and Ex's. A few hundred bucks to cover this investment and optionally transfer to a new sports car in my future 😁, is more than worth it.

Something to keep in mind, you can buy the best of camera's from BlackVue or even Thinkware..but unless it's running and capturing everything when in Park mode..your not recording stuff that's needed most like hit-n-runs/ vandalism / pissed of EX. I've used the power magic pro's but it's only good for a half day on vehicle battery power.

I've also tried the BlackVue backup battery, works great but once winter hits(anything below +1C), the BlackVue battery pack doesn't work/charge until warmed up. So you can get around 12hrs out of it, but then need 1 hr for it to dethaw and another hour to charge completely.

I'm now looking into CellLink battery's due to the -10C min operating range and larger capacity..

I agree with you EL1. When in doubt, do it.

It is just a little difficult in the F-Type. My work van has an independent rear Mobius cam now as of watching that video. A++

As for battery power when parked for a certain amount of time when AUX is off there are a few solutions for that - TECHMOAN on Youtube is the go-to guy for explaining all the ins and outs of dash cams.

important question
the audio ???

if you do a video in a tunnel or riding happy can you hear clear the pops and crackle and bangs of the f-type exhaust

im watching for camera car (not the dashcam for security) a gopro + microphone fixed in the exhaust zone ( near )
but if the audio is good example with the viofo ..im very curious

Nope. Too low and too set back in the car.

Dashcams are typically wide angle and your recording field will be 75% F-type interior and 25% road at best. Behind the passenger side of the mirror is the best choice.

Behind driver positions are meant for cameras used for track days where you want a cockpit view of your driving as well as a visual directly outward.

A front/windshield mount gives the full view of what you want a road dash cam to give you.

Totally agree. I have my setup hardwired to Accessory and Always On fuses, no aux battery pack, with the software set to time lapse (like 2 frames per second) and battery protection at 11V, motion and impact sensitivity set to medium.

Seems like the power consumption is low enough for 48 hrs. of continuous parking surveillance, but will have to see how long it would go beyond that. I personally wouldn't leave my F-Type parked in a public area for more than a partial day as well... I'd use my good old, but trusted Mercedes E320 if I needed to leave my car at airport parking for longer periods. That car is a battle tank! 😜

I would always use a dedicated battery pack and have the cam on a switched power source. The F-type's electronics' 'flaw' does not need any extra drain source when the car is off.

Opinion only - everyone has one - avoid dash cams with displays or any unnecessary bs that makes them bigger.

The only time a built in display is an advantage is when you are aiming the camera and most have built in wifi to your mobile phone - see the image on your phone.

Avoid any cheap cams. Come on, $100k car right? 1080p or 1440 at must. No 'HD' cams that end up being 720p or worse. Mini SD min capacity of 64g, better yet 128g (full 1440 for 8+ hours).

Depends upon if you want to make movies or record events.
The Viofo 119s I’ve just installed is tiny, discrete and the wedge shape makes it look as if it were OEM. It records at 1920x1080 60fps and produces great results.
It’s not as sophisticated as a $500 camera but for $100 it’s brilliant

Just to add that price was not a factor. Its compact size was the deciding factor.

You are correct. There are excellent choices for $100-$120 that have it all. I picked this one and have had it in two vehicles for 6+ months and its pretty much rock solid.

It fits in behind the passenger side of the rear view and does/has everything anyone could want for less than $120 (with the excection of REAR view, which in that case I'd go Blackvue).

I use a battery backup with a solar panel on one side.

I totally agree that you need a camera to be on when parked anywhere such as a Mall or restaurant.

No matter if I park well away from people someone always chooses to park next to me.

This is an example of how a supplemental battery for the dashcam works:

i think after many research viofo 119s is best for a lot of reason (top is 1 front 1 back) and for track cam to use a gopro with external mic

the solution that i can't find is the wifi for viofo that make it perfect

and for this i find roav c1 pro from anker

that is fun

Of course there is this one which is similar to the Viofo but you have to connect a separate gps unit.

It uses an internal battery not a capacitor.....could be a problem.
