Default Brake Pads Decals

I bought my 2014 FType v8 S a few months ago. It has red calipers and pads, but the Jaguar decal has come off, with only traces of the original remaining. Is this common? Are the decals available?

thanks
Steve

These are the ones I ordered a few years ago for my previous R. Excellent quality, heat resistant and easy to put on. Be sure to measure your current ones to get the exact size and they will go right over your faded lettering. I chose white instead of silver so they would pop a little more visually.

How do you keep those Red Calipers looking so clean?

Yes, very common, mine had faded to almost nothing in 18 months.
You can get new decals for cheap, plenty out there, but most are in the "old" font with only a couple in the "new" font to match the original, see here for example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294355252...QAAOSwhNtgjxhu
That linked one has a wide choice of colours and one of them looks very close to the original yellow/gold colour.
Three sizes as well one of which should be close to right.
I have used other brands many times and never had a problem, and they have lasted for years with zero fade or damage.

I have some OCD issues when it comes to detailing cars. Staying on top of the brake dust, soft brush, quality wheel cleaner and a regular application of wax really helps. I now have ceramic brakes so the dust battle has dissipated and my life has become so much easier!

Thanks - I was thinking of moving to ceramic as well for the same reasons (including the OCD) - are they as quiet as the factory pads?

Thanks
Steve

I used a simple can of Rustoleum high heat paint and I picked a shade of gloss red which was a very close match. I sprayed a small amount of paint in a solo cup and applied it (dabbing paint strokes) to the calipers with a small but stiff paint brush after taping off the surrounding area. Two coats with ample drying time only took a couple of hours. Biggest pain was aligning each rim (one at a time) in order to achieve the most open space to paint the caliper by moving the car a foot at a time. A few coats of wax after you apply your Jaguar decals and you'll be good to go!

I measured mine and found:

Front decal is approximately 68 mm wide - so choose 67mm from the recommended site
Rear - pads are from TRW (likely replaced by dealer) but a 42 mm decal would be an ideal fit, so choose smallest from site, which is 60 mm

Does this make sense relative to your experience?

I need to paint the outward face of the rear pads, hence my question about colour matching...

They don't extend to aligning the center cap "correctly". Growler's chin to valve stem, please! And if you have a locking wheel nut, that should either be above the growler's head, or below his chin, depending on the nut positioning (below the chin on yours).

I refuse to align the center cap correctly which exempts me from having to participate in actual therapy sessions! However, I do keep a clear layer of "road wrap" over my interior silver tread plates so they don't get scratched entering and exiting the vehicle. Is that bad?

I don't know if it's bad - you might ask your therapist :-)
I can't imagine what new tread plates cost ...

They are not cheap and can be a pain to remove from what I've read on this site. They come with a protective clear strip for transport and I just decided to replicate what the factory does.

He was talking about the tread plates George!
Anyway they are not as expensive as you might think, I upgraded to the illuminated plates a few months ago, only $182 US for the pair, see here: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-T2R6090. Dunno about the cost of standard tread plates but my guess is they wouldn't be much if any cheaper.
A bit of mucking about to remove the old plates and install the new, the whole lower panel under the door has to come off to connect the wiring, but easy enough although time consuming.
I *think* the panels have to come off as well just to replace the old tread plates with new standard (not illuminated) ones but I'm not sure.

Beware the rear calipers have a "dimpled" exterior finish that decals won't stick to (don't tell me how I know!).
So before repainting mine I filed down those rear calipers reasonably flat (just the places where the decals go) then the decals stuck no worries.

Now that I think about it, my F-Type R did not have "Jaguar" lettering on the rear calipers. I only put the new decals on the front brakes which are much larger.

I have never seen, heard of or read about factory "Jaguar" lettering or any other decal/lettering on the rear calipers of any F-Type other than one with the CCM brakes.
XFR, XKR, XJR yes but they have a completely different design of rear calipers (same 376 mm rotors as the "super performance" brakes though) with a small metal cover plate screwed over the top with an "R" decal in the middle.
The F-Type steel brakes rear calipers (both 326 mm and 376 mm) don't have much of a surface area to stick a decal to and even then it is angled back inside a bit so you can barely see the decal at all.
I have considered getting a couple of those cover plates for the F-Type and tapping some holes to mount them but even then there is barely enough length for a "Jaguar" decal.
